I co-maintain a shared campaign with a group of other DMs. We've been re-organizing our Wiki for our next season of play and we're running into an organizational problem. Our wiki pages are getting longer and we often need links to sections within the page (such as to specific headings.)

We've set aside blocks for intra-page links

We've flagged the ID of various sections such as using <div id="example">

We've created links using straight HTML. The URL fed to the browser looks valid /wikis/page#example

Yet when the links are clicked, the only change is the URL in the browser. Both when called from within the page, or referenced from another page.

Is there something I'm missing or a trick within Textile/Redcloth?

I thought it would be more straightforward to change the font I'm using, but when I save the page, the font does not change. The font shows correctly on the preview view, but when I save the page the font is the same boring "Times New Roman" or something close to it-- definitely not the font-family that I selected.

Its been a while since I've done any sort of online editing involving HTML or CSS and I've never worked with Textile before, so I'm hoping that this is just a simple oversight on my part... Attached below are screenshots of what I'm working with.

PS: Ultimately I would like to use the Baldur font from Mad Irishman Productions for all the fonts in my campaign pages but I'm working with what I have for the time being; but if anyone could help me accomplish this, I would be forever grateful.

Been awhile since I've used Obsidian Portal, and search is failing me, so apologies if this has been covered and I'm just missing it.

Is there a way to make the page when viewing a character keep the same width as the main Characters page (or Wiki, or Front Page) at all? Right now everything on my site looks great, but when I go to Characters/Character it suddenly changes from fixed width to 100% width and throws things off. Seems to be the only page that does it.

I realize that some pages/modules (Dashboard, Forum, Calendar, etc.) use a 100% width design, that's fine. This only seems to be when I vew an individual character.

Examples:

Main Characters Page: https://symbaroumatlasofsecrets.obsidianportal.com/characters

Viewing a Character: https://symbaroumatlasofsecrets.obsidianportal.com/characters/lasifor-nightpitch

I won't be using character sheets at all so I'm not worried in that regard. I also just threw this up so content is lacking, ignore the emptiness. :)

I've been working on styling a campaign that, for design reasons, I want to remove as much of the pre-generated nav bars, side-bars, etc. from the campaign's pages.

The removal part is easy, but some of these bars have functionality that I want to be able to keep so that the site isn't super-inconvenient to use. So here are the things I have been trying to do that with which I've so far had no success. I'll do my best to list everything I have tried so far that has not worked.

Note: I'm not a super-advanced html/css user, but I'm a fast learner so please feel free to hit me with as much complexity or nuance as you like.

Campaign Search Bar (inserted on the page instead of in the top nav bar)

Tried taking the code from the existing campaign search element, defining a new div class to contain it and working it into my wiki pages - all to no avail.

Tried building my own form to capture the input, didn't seem to work (see 3rd major topic below).

Fan Count (inserted on the page instead of on the side bar)

I can successfully reproduce the button and/or hyperlink for people to add the campaign to their favorites, but I can't find a way to pull the fan count when the page loads.

I don't really have any great ideas here. My best guess is this would require knowing more about how OP's back-end works, or figuring out a way to transplant the entire fan counter container and then modify it's appearance to fit my site.

Various ideas involving use of <form> and <input> tags which so far seem functionless.

My work so far seems to indicate that <form> tags are just disabled for direct input on OP pages. Does anyone know if this is true? Or do I just have even less of a clue what I'm doing than I thought I did?

Unfortunately at this time I can't really link to the campaign. It's very unfinished at this point, but already has enough info on it that I don't want to potentially spoil any of it for my future players (some of whom are pretty likely to read this thread).

Any and all help is appreciated!

This thread is meant as a sort of annotated compendium of helpful resources, software and tutorials that can enable you to create your own maps for your campaigns and/or campaign worlds. Though there are some really good commercial resources on map-making out there, I've focused here on resources that are all free or freeware.

h3. Helpful Resources for Map-Making:

1. "A Magical Society: Guide to Mapping":http://paizo.com/store/downloads/free/v5748btpy82tc, is a free 37 page pdf that covers everything from the axial spin of the planet, to its climate and ecology, to the cultures that inhabit it. This is an extraordinarily useful little manual, especially given that it is absolutely free!

2. "Medieval Demographics Made Easy":http://www.io.com/~sjohn/demog.htm is a short online, researched article aimed at explaining to the average DM how things such as population density and spread, agriculture, and economic goods and services function within a Medieval setting.

3. "The Doomsday Book":http://www.rpglibrary.org/utils/meddemog/ is a supplemental aid to the article on Medieval Demographics. This site offers a sort of "Settlements Calculator"; you plug in inputs such as the climate and geographical spread of one of your civilizations, and the calculator generates outputs such as a break down of population (and its spread), specific details relating to the villages and settlements of your civilization, number of castles and fortifications, and even a breakdown of what kinds of goods and services are likely available in those villages (including how many butcher, bakers, thatchers etc. the village would likely support).

4. "The Cartographers Guild":http://forum.cartographersguild.com/index.php?referrerid=15127, a site dedicated to supporting those who enjoy making maps, whether you are a complete novice, an amateur, or a professional RPG cartographer (and there are several of these within the Guild). Not only are there great tutorials for map making, but there are also very instructive discussions on related topics that bear on our conversation here.

h3. Free Software for Map-Making:

1. "GIMP":http://www.gimp.org/ is a raster based Image Manipulation Program similar to Photoshop. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

2. "Inkscape":http://inkscape.org/ is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw or Xara X.

3. "Wilbur":http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/wilbur.html is a freely distributed bit of software that works with height fields (it can be used to simulate somewhat realistic erosion on maps)

_NOTE: most of these tutorials are all hosted at the Cartographers Guild; you will need to create an account there to access them._

h3. Tutorials On Making Regional or World Maps:

1. "How to Create an Artistic Regional Map in GIMP":http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?1142-Award-Winner-Using-GIMP-to-Create-an-Artistic-Regional-RPG-Map this is a good _Beginner_ level map tutorial in GIMP (written by RobA). The style of map is somewhat realistic.

2. "Antique Style Maps in GIMP":http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?15011-Antique-Style-Maps-in-Gimp. This is another good _Beginner_ level tutorial in GIMP (originally written for Photoshop by Ascension but translated to GIMP by Candacis). The style of the map, as the name implies, is more traditional.

3. "Atlas Style Map In GIMP":http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?4084-Award-Winner-My-atlas-style-in-PS/page27 (located at the bottom of the page). This is another good _Beginner_ and _Intermediate_ level tutorial in GIMP (originally written by Ascension for Photoshop, but translated to GIMP by Gidde). The tutorial will give you an attractive pseudo-realistic atlas style map.

4. "Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged":http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?10655-Hand-Drawn-Mapping-%28for-the-Artistically-Challenged%29 this is a great _Beginner_ level tutorial for a more hand-drawn style of map (written by Gidde).

5. "Photorealistic Maps in GIMP & Willbur":http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?18280-Eriond-A-Tutorial-for-GIMP-amp-Wilbur this is a slightly more _Intermediate_ level tutorial that walks you through how to create a map in GIMP and add realistic looking terrain to it in Wilbur (written by myself).

Hi all.

I am totally new to Obsidian portal but I've used the past days trying to set up my campaign layout. The one thing I need for now is creating a new link in the left menu. What I want is something like the "item" menu I've seen on other campaign pages, but instead of items I want quests. Unfourtunately I can't even seem to add the item section (thinking I could rename this to quest and then add quest as one would normally add items).

What I have done for now, is using a Wiki page called quests, where they are listed, but I would rather have a nice interface with pictures the players could click for a precise description. Is something like this possible?

My campaign page can be found here:

https://eberron-36.obsidianportal.com/

.campaign-landing-show .main-content-container {background-color:transparent}

Or maybe this isn't even possible. Searched the forum and no dice.

Custom CSS Beta Discussion

This is a place to discuss any thoughts related to the Custom CSS / Campaign Theming that we're working on. In a nutshell, we're exploring the option of allowing people to define their own campaign-wide CSS rules. We've got a working prototype, but we'd like some more feedback before releasing it to everyone.

If you're not part of the beta, don't worry, we'll be releasing it soon enough.

If you are part of the beta (or have ideas), think about these questions:

* Are there any malicious CSS tricks we need to be especially aware of? We do some sanitizing and sanity checks, but CSS hackery is not something I'm terribly familiar with.
* What changes to the markup are necessary to support maximum flexibility in theming? We're happy to add extra divs, spans, classes, ids, etc, etc. If there's a particular CMS out there that does a good job with this, please point us.
* How can we roll this out (new markup, specifically) without destroying existing campaign theming? Do we need to support both the old and new markup styles? That would be a real pain on our end, but I can understand if it's necessary.
* Is there anything else we should be considering at the same time? What am I missing?

Thanks again for all your help!

Hey everyone. I've recently started my first campaign using Obsidian Portal, but I don't know anything about coding so I mainly use it as an information bank for my players. However, I think it would be really cool to have music playing in the background for my players when perusing the pages. There was an old post on this, but I can't seem to get anything to work quite right so I was wondering if someone can help me out step-by-step. Thanks!

Hi all!

Very new.

I just started up my own campaign and I'm trying to find a way to turn off the autosave notification while I'm editing a page. Barring that, can I just turn off autosave? I apprectiate the autosave function as a whole, but as someone with ADD, it is incredibly distracting to see a bright green bar pop up on the top right of my screen every 10-15 seconds, and it's disrupting my flow. I've tried searching google and the forum to no avail. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Perry

Someone who's name shall not be mentioned, had said they didn't even realize that there was a comment button on the campaign homepage. Which I can sort of understand since the campaign homepage is usually one of the more visually striking pages. So I set about making the comment button a little more obvious. In my case, I enlisted the help of an animated short tempered alien to act as my ambassador to the comment section.

/* Comment Section*/

.small-12.columns.comment-count-column {

background-image: url(https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/124016/assets/664042/Comment.gif);

height: 300px;

background-position:center;

background-repeat: no-repeat;

}

.comment-count-wrapper {

    height: 300px;

}

.comment-count-wrapper .count {

    padding-top: 250px;

}

.comment-count-wrapper dd{font-size:100%;}

So feel free to head on over and take a look https://x-com-defiance.obsidianportal.com/ and I'd do as my ambassador says.

Hi everyone. Just joined and I'm really impressed by everything here. One thing I'm not intuitively grasping: on my campaigns Forums, how can I lock/sticky a post to the top of the Forum? For example, I created a FAQ Forum and I want to lock the first post to the top of the thread. How would I do this?

Also as a general aside, it's very easy to surf all the way to the subforum I want, create a post, and only then realize that the default setting for new posts is 'Forum' and not the subforum that I was previously viewing. Super frustrating to have to manually move those posts back to the subforum.

Thanks to any and all that help me figure this out.

How would one do this and is it even possible? I wouldn't want to make them all have gm permissions either due to the hidden characters that they haven't met yet.
