I've been away for a year or so, so I'm not sure if this is new behavior or existing behavior that I just don't remember. I've noticed that when I have a smaller screen (phone, non-maximized browser window that's too narrow) the right sidebar jumps to below the main content area, but the left campaign navigation area disappears entirely (or at least I can't find it anywhere). This is the case also with my test campaign that has no custom CSS at the moment, so I don't think it's something I did.

Personally, I find the campaign navigation area much more helpful than the right sidebar. Does anyone know any of: 1) where it disappears to so I can keep using it? 2) how to manually force it to jump to the bottom rather than disappearing? 3) an alternate way to switch to different areas when it's gone? Thanks.

CSS not Selector

I just wanted to share this up here for folks to make use of it on their Campaigns if they were not aware of it. CSS features a special "not" selector that allows you to single out specific selectors to not apply an effect to. Let me show you an example of how I use this on my own Campaign to correct an issue with a link effect that I use:

/* LOOK PUSHED ON CLICK */
a:not(.corner-add-button):active {
position:relative;
top:1px;
}

What does this bit of CSS actually do? Well, it applies an effect to all anchors (links) that when they are clicked on they will push down 1px from the top to make it look like they have been depressed. Doing this, however, without adding the "not" selector causes the add buttons that are a "+" will actually bounce off to the side and not load the link properly if the user happens to click off to the edge of the actual symbol itself (which is easy and common to do). So, by adding in the :not(.corner-add-button) I have stated that any instance of an anchor with that class applied to it (which all of those buttons do) will not do what I am putting in for the effect. The end result is links on my site appearing like they depress when clicked, but on those buttons they just sit stationary and no longer cause the glaring issues for end users.

Of course this could be extrapolated in a number of creative ways while working on your Campaign pages, but it is usually a feature that people do not stumble into with CSS. So, have some fun with that and see what kind of enhanced results you can cobble together on your pages.

So, I am presently looking for a bit of a suggestion regarding how I handle something on my Campaign Page that I don't think I am entirely satisfied with yet--the Front Page. First of all, the page does not feel entirely engaging to the viewer at present and I was wondering if any had any ideas on ways I could potentially go about spicing that up any further (what catches your eye on a Campaign Front Page).

Secondly, one of the items I use on the Front Page does not respond the way I was initially hoping it would. The Detail Boxes that hold the Game Details and Considerations for Players. I don't mind the formatting style used on the legal notice at the bottom of the page, but those other boxes do not feel like they should be designed in that manner. Just can't personally think of a reasonable alternative.

So, any suggestions that the community might have about this would be most appreciated.

Had a cool idea to assist in one of the PbP's I am in. BUT, once again my long search (scouring the Internet) in how to carry it out has ended in OP not supporting the code. In this case it is the 'onclick' function using the {alert()} script. My thought was to have a hidden text box that would be exposed when clicking a hyperlink. Thus, allowing me to hide OOC comments inline with the actual story, including dice rolls. I was using 'title', but that really is limited to certain platforms, touchscreen devices NOT being one of those.

So TWO questions. First, has someone already composed a list of workable functions on Obsidian Portal. That would be a great resource.

Second, does someone have a workable alternative to my unworkable solution? This a clickable link, that would allow for a pop-up textbox, much like an Alert to pop up providing hidden text, that is workable on a touchscreen device (hence the need to be a clickable link, rather than a rollover). I would prefer inline code if possible.

Ok, so this one I grabbed from "ChainsawXIV":https://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/ChainsawXIV on their "Sanction of the Athar":https://sanction.obsidianportal.com/ Campaign page. I have tweaked it to use CSS now instead of all inline which reduces the amount of code you need to put on the page. I also no longer use the image for the gradient and again use CSS for that effect which means you can now easily tweak all the involved colors to fit your Campaign theme. Finally, like everything I am working on it is adaptive to mobile devices, though I am thinking I will tweak the way that works actually to some degree (either doing a min-width on it or giving it a special mobile only declaration--not decided yet, but you could always toss those in with some minor tweaking yourself). Anyways, here it is:

*CSS*

/* BACKGROUND BOX */
.dar-bg-container {
width:50%;
float:right;
background-color:transparent;
font-family:arial;
margin:0px 0px 20px 20px;
}

.dar-bg-title {
background-color:darkred;
font-weight:bold;

Responsive XP Bar

So, for those who would like to grab one of these for their own pages I have cobbled together a responsive (will adjust dynamically based on width of the viewer) XP Bar that does not use any images, just CSS and a little HTML on the page is all so it is pretty good about load times. I have also included some fallbacks on it for as much browser support as possible. This is posted up on my Campaign site with a few other interesting CSS goodies, but I figured I would kick it up here for folks as well (since there is a good chance you may not have been to my page and my CSS is getting kind of massive at this point since I am getting various responsive fallbacks in place). Here are the details:

*CSS:*

/* CSS ONLY XP BAR */
.graph {
width: 75%;
height: 30px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
border: 1px solid #888;
/* FALLBACK */
background-color: #CCC;
/* SAFARI 4, CHROME 1-9, IOS 3.2-4.3, ANDROID 2.1-3.0 */
-webkit-gradient(linear, left top, right top, from(#A8A8A8), to(#CCC));
/* SAFARI 5.1, IOS 5.0-6.1, CHROME 10-25, ANDROID 4.0-4.3 */
background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(left, #A8A8A8, #CCC);
/* FIREFOX 3.6 - 15 */
background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(center top, #A8A8A8, #CCC);
/* OPERA 15+, CHROME 25+, IE 10+, FIREFOX 16+, SAFARI 6.1+, IOS 7+, ANDROID 4.4+ */
background-image: linear-gradient(to right, #A8A8A8, #CCC);
position: relative;
}

.bar {
height: 29px;
/* FALLBACK */
background-color: red;
/* SAFARI 4, CHROME 1-9, IOS 3.2-4.3, ANDROID 2.1-3.0 */
-webkit-gradient(linear, left top, right top, from(darkred), to(red));
/* SAFARI 5.1, IOS 5.0-6.1, CHROME 10-25, ANDROID 4.0-4.3 */
background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(left, darkred, red);
/* FIREFOX 3.6 - 15 */
background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(left, darkred, red);
/* OPERA 15+, CHROME 25+, IE 10+, FIREFOX 16+, SAFARI 6.1+, IOS 7+, ANDROID 4.4+ */
background-image: linear-gradient(to right, darkred, red);
}

.xpValue {
position: absolute;
text-align: center;
width: 100%;
margin: 0px;
line-height: 30px;
}

/* END XP BAR */

*HTML:*

@Current XP / Level XP@

You just adjust the inline width % to fill in a percentage of the bar as the players gain XP. If you want you can also give the bar rounded ends by adding the following.

*CSS:*

/* ROUNDED CORNERS */
.round {
-moz-border-radius:10px;
-webkit-border-radius:10px;
border-radius:10px;
-khtml-border-radius:10px
}

*Modified HTML:*

@Current XP / Level XP@

Again you would still just modify the inline width on the div. Obviously on both you would replace the Current XP with how much XP the character has and Level XP with the amount needed to get to the next level. Other than XP this could have some other applications on pages as well, so feel free to get creative with it. Additionally you can play with some of the CSS on this to do some styling of the bar itself, I have it commented fairly well so you can get an idea of what is going on. If you want to see the bar in action take a look at one of the PC pages on my Campaign as I have replaced my old image based bar with this now. Being responsive you can adjust the width of your browser and the bar will adjust on the fly with it.

Hi everyone,

Old time user returning to the website. I used to be able to "right-click" on my world map from my campaign and download the original image. However, with the redesign, it doesn't look like this is possible anymore. Is there any way for me to recover the original image? It would save me a lot of trouble, considering I've probably migrated to at least two different computers since I uploaded the file.
I'm not concerned about the Google locations; I just want to recover the original map image.
Thanks!

I am in the process of getting my credit and acknowledgement page setup on my OP page, but sadly when I started things off I was not paying close attention to things I was using and such. If you see something in use on my Campaign that you are pretty sure you designed or any art you know that you created I would appreciate if you could reach out to me and let me know so I can provide you with the appropriate credits on the site or stop using your work if that is what you prefer.

And, in closing, thanks to everyone in the community who contributed in some way to getting my Campaign setup the way I was wanting it to be. Still have a little more work to get done on it, but it is just about where I wanted it now.

Adaptive 3 Column Character Layout

So, I just figured I would share this here for folks to play with. I don't remember where exactly I originally saw the 3 Column Layout for the Characters page, but it always had the issue that if you used it and people loaded the site on a portable device it would make it impossible to load up the character page as all you would see was the picture and the actual link (their name) would be hidden.

To get around this I have modified the CSS for it very mildly so that the 3 Column style is only applied if the size of the browser is large enough to properly compensate it while leaving the default mobile layout in tact. Here is the CSS for it:

/* CHARACTERS SECTION */
/* TARGET DESKTOPS AND LAPTOPS */
@media only screen
and (min-width : 1224px) {
/* 3 COLUMNS */
.character-list-item-container {
position:relative !important;
width:33.33% !important;
height:125px !important;
display:inline;
clear:none !important;
color:transparent;
}
}
/* END DESKTOP AND LAPTOP */

OK, I've started vigorous work on a new campaign setting, one I plan to pitch to my Gaming group down the line. Anyhow, as is normal here, it is highly customized.
My dilemma is this, I've customized the default Characters page quite a bit, but it still doesn;t completely match up wiht the formatting I'm using everywhere else.

Main site is here: "Phoenix Rising":https://phoenix-rising-1.obsidianportal.com/

Character page is here:
"Phoenix Rising Character Page":https://phoenix-rising-1.obsidianportal.com/characters

All I'm really trying to do is figure a way to put the same border around the Character page itself that I use throughout the rest of the site.

All help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Custom Cursors

Recently on two of my sites I've added custom cursors and it was suggested I share the code.

My current pathfinder campaign "Devils and Dilettantes":https://devils-and-dilettantes.obsidianportal.com/ has pentagram cursors that change to a different pentagram when it hovers over a link.

a:hover {cursor: url(http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-extern.php?id=62168),pointer;}
.campaign-public-layout, .campaign-dashboard-layout {cursor: url(http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-extern.php?id=62172),auto;}

My work in progress campaign "Deus Ex Machina":https://deusex.obsidianportal.com/ uses more futuristic looking cursors changing when hovering over links (well really any 'a' tag)

a:hover {cursor: url(http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-extern.php?id=45717),pointer;}
.campaign-public-layout, .campaign-dashboard-layout {cursor: url(http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-extern.php?id=64537), url(http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-extern.php?id=64522) ,auto;}

Not all browsers support all filetypes of custom cursors. Firefox dropped support for .ani cursors, and chrome does not support it either. I've found .cur seems to have the widest support (only opera doesn't support it) followed by .gif (IE and opera don't support gif as cursors).

I'm using cursors found at "RW Designers":http://www.rw-designer.com however there are many other sites that provide custom cursor links. If you find some good sites provide some links.
