As a GM, I encourage players to craft their backstories and build their own little niche of the world. Some players are better at this than others, but one thing I've continually felt that our wiki misses out on is the ability for a player to have "GM status" on an individual page or series of pages. Right now, I can make a player a Co-GM, but then they gain GM-level access to the entire wiki. What I mean is that it would be nice for them to have all the options and features that I have (such as adding other players to GM secrets and reading the GM only text of a page) for some pages **but not all**. That way they can moderate which other players have or do not have access to the secret parts of their backstory, kingdom, or what have you, and for such a thing to be much smoother, rather than requiring an unnecessary level of mediation.

Would it be possible to allow a new calendar event to auto set the end date to the same date as the start date? For example, I created a new event for my campaign to start on Aug 14. I then had to also change the end date Aug 14 before I could save the event. Another option would be to not require an end date when saving the calendar event. I don't know of too many gaming sessions that run more than 1 day. ;) Thanks!

*tl/dr - scroll down to the next bold text area*

So, I am posting this quick as I want to get some ideas from other members of the active community here. I am doing what I can to assist the name generator project since it was mentioned by the staff that they would be willing to accept assistance on fleshing this tool out. I just submitted what I felt would be the next most urgent aspect of the generator to schwing, a Generic Elf Full Name generator in the code they are using. I did some manual testing of the code I wrote (since I only know the structure of the individual generators and don't have a viable test environment setup currently) and these are the results I got from it:

Taclaal Coldvine
Rodjeal Lighthill
Oroloaalar Nightflower
Cilkawen Redwind
Lismoenor Nightwillow
Rewvewen Darkwillow
Canruwen Daybrook
Narriarin Blackflower
Monjeoaris Dawnhill
Rarmalor Redbow

I think they came out sounding generally elvish in nature, at least at a setting neutral level (which is what I was going for). So, I expect this feature should certainly keep growing if I have any say at least.

*Now, to the real purpose of this post.* I want to get a sense from the community of what types of generators would be most beneficial to them in the present to near future. I want to try and focus my development on this to what the community viably needs. My long term goal is to get a number of generic generators done and also get a fair share of system specific ones made to help GMs and players alike adhere to the overall lore presented in the world they are playing in. So, please comment back with suggestions on generators you could use post haste.

Hello!

I signed in OP a few years ago. Now I have a game group to play an Ars Magica campaign wich has been in "stand-bay" for a year, and one of the reasons is I chosen OP for basing it and it's not in spanish (I mean the interface), so, the feature would be a drop down box (combo) in profile page to switch between the available languages.

And to make these languages available, the best thing would be a translator wich can be managed by volunteers (as the subtitles scene for example).

I think it will be good for new players to use OP and pleasing the ones like me wich have a group of players who doesn't understand english ;-)

Hi all,

Love the new redesign. It looks great and I'm having a much easier time getting around. However, one of my group's favorite features from the old version seems to be missing, and it is really impacting my players' participation levels.

It used to be that when a campaign forum post email notification went out, you could reply directly to the email and it would create a new post directly. Now, the replies either bounce or open up the website, which is something that can be difficult to deal with if you only have a very limited amount of time.

My campaign has a large percentage of play-by-post, and our players are all very busy. I'd like to make it as easy as possible for them to participate, and the disappearance of the post-by-reply feature has essentially kept two of my players from participating.

Are we just missing something? Is the feature still there? If not, can I put in a request (or beg) for the feature to be reinstated?

Thank you so much.

I see this popping up in a few threads, but I'd like a dedicated discussion about the way forums are used in campaigns, as this new update has dramatically altered the way that they can be used.

For my campaign, my group and I use the forums to further our game between sessions. There's a lot of information gathering and role playing involved that may not need dice and can be better done in post forum, allowing our table to focus on action. In order for this to work, the forum needs to be organized in such a way as to group things by area, character, plot thread, etc. This new design makes that kind of game enhancement impossible, or at least more trouble than it's worth.

According to this video: http://vimeo.com/77737413 (at around the 2:30 mark) the developers seem to think that the forums are only used for brief, disposable conversations and the last post is the only one that really matters. If that is how they see it an intend to proceed (and I see no word from them otherwise) then I no longer have a use for Obsidian Portal. Certainly not one worth paying money for.

I am an Ascendant member and I contributed to the Kickstarter. How many other people pay for Obsidial Portal to use the forums as I have been, or in such a way that is no longer possible?

My question to the developers is this: How many paying members will it take to change your minds about the forum functionality? Or is there even any chance that we can have that back?

It would be incredibly useful to have some indication in the browser tab at the top as to which element we're moving to. Right now, it only says "Obsidian Portal," meaning I have to hunt through two or three tabs before I remember exactly what I'm looking for.

I noticed there is a thread for adding official game systems, which is vital for those looking to use custom DST character sheets with their campaign. What if that wasn't the case?

Right now, when submitting a DST, or searching for one, you have to use one of the game systems that have been added to Obsidian Portal's database; however, in settings you can type in whatever you'd like as your game system. What I would like to see is a system where DSTs can either be submitted with the official game systems dropdown menu - which could use a little alphabetizing - or by typing in the name of a custom game system. Any GM that uses that exact typing - Maybe ignoring caps - can bring up any of those custom DSTs. There could either by a check box to select which of the two types (official or custom) or if anything is typed in the custom game systems box the drop box selection is ignored.

For example. I'm working on a Final Fantasy campaign setting. In terms of the actual game system I'm only slightly modifying some of the D&D 4E systems. So, in my campaign I go to settings and I type in 'Final Fantasy 4E' as my game system. Then, after lots of blood, sweat, and tears - or some groveling to an established DSTer - when submitting the new custom DST I type in the box, below the drop box, 'Final Fantasy 4E'. Now, if I go to edit a character page I'll see that DST and any others that were submitted and approved with the custom game system of 'Final Fantasy 4E'.

Text Message Calendar Reminder

I absolutely love the calendar system. I can put the date and time for the next game on it and set it to send several reminders over time. With that said I do have one suggestion/request. One of my players works as a customer service rep and deals with email all day so she doesn't want to look at email at home. Plus she is WAY behind at looking at her email so she has hundreds if not thousands that she feels she should go through instead of hitting the reset button by deleting all of them. No matter how I plead, beg or nag her she won't check her email at home to get the game notice and respond if she'll be there or not. So, with my busy schedule, which is why I love the calendar system here, I have to remember to call or text her to see if she'll be at the game. This brings me to my suggestion/request. Would you consider putting in a text notification option for the calendar, forum, and anything else that Obsidian sends notifications? It wouldn't have to be the message that was posted, just a text message informing the person that they have a message on Obsidian Portal waiting for them.

I want to offer an idea that came to me. I would like to see an option added for Retired Player Characters under the Character tab. Right now we have Player Characters and we NPC's only. Most games that last any amount of time have characters that die permanently or are retired because of a player leaving the campaign. Any chance this could be added to any upcoming changes?

Hi, maybe I'm missing it, but it doesn't appear that we can send private message to more than one recipient at a time. Two of our party is away from the group and the DM is sending those two characters info about it.

This would be a nice feature. If only adding a comma between recipient names. A contacts list of friends to draw from would be nice, too.

Also a separate suggestion would be previous and next buttons to go back and forth between messages currently being viewed.

Thanks,

I would absolutely love the ability to add an image to an NPC when I create him/her for my campaign. In my game (which is just starting), I've been drawing all of the key NPCs so far but I have to create the NPC and then go back in and add the image after. It'd be super helpful if I could create the character in one easy step.

[Feature Request] Looking for Players additional tags: Online, PbP or Traditional

It would be nice to have an additional tag for campaigns that are "Looking for Players." A tag that the GM selects whether the game is online, PbP or a traditional campaign. With those two additional tags, a potential could filter so much faster down to the type of game they happen to be looking for when coming onto the site.

In my case, I can only really join an online or PbP game right now. I selected the following:
Currently Playing
Looking for Players
Recently Updated

And then I had to dig through a ton of potential games trying to decipher if online/PbP was an option. So if there had been these options:
Online
PbP
Traditional

I could have saved so much time. And I am aware of the great resource http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/compendium-of-pbp-on-line-campaigns by Kenurion and it is greatly appreciated. It just seems like empowering the creator of the campaign to tag that option themselves and make it a search function would be a might easier.

Hello and well met all,

It would be real nice to have a short warning by the upload button for character portraits that would alert the player that any unsaved data in the Dynamic Character Sheet will not be saved upon clicking the Upload button. Getting to the end of a character sheet and losing several hours of progress because of this is quite infuriating. Alternatively, causing the upload button to automatically save the sheet before performing the portrait upload would be just as welcome.
Besides this one frustrating hiccup, I've found the site to be a phenomenal resource.

Sincerely yours,
Dieben
