For OP to really gow in to its own as a community players looking for games have to be able to come here and find them easily. Look at how something like Roll20 handles players looking for games.

The "All Campaigns" page: Change the default?

I don't know how difficult it would be, but I vaguely remember in the distant past there was a discussion about possibly modifying the Default Order of the All Campaigns page.

Currently, 14 of the 25 highest-ranked sites (by number of fans) haven't been updated in the last year. How hard would it be to have the Default Order filter out campaigns that haven't been updated in a year (or two, or whatever)?

We already have a filter option for Popularity, so that selection would still include and show the old, defunct campaigns.

To be clear, I'm really not worried about this - I'm not that ego-tastic - but it's something I've wondered about and wanted to suggest.

Spots available for Calendar events

At a cursory glance, I haven't seen this mentioned as a feature request...

What I would like is, when creating a new Calendar Event, the ability to set a limit for the number of available spots (i.e. a limit to the number of potential attendees). These spots would be consumed on a first-reply basis. Once the number of players who responded as "Attending" was equal to the limit of spots available for that Calendar Event, those replying "Attending" would receive an email response letting them know that the session was full. If a player later changes their status to "Not Attending," others would then be able to consume that spot again.

The driver for this is that I am running an open-table game, and I increasingly have far more players than I can reasonably accommodate at once. As such, I'd like to set a limit (e.g. 6 attendees), and have the first six positive respondents be listed as Attending the session...make sense? Or does this need further clarification?

In particular I would like to be able to have a continuous play list for my site that doesn't re-start the audio every time the user changes pages and that the user can enable/disable once.

I appreciate new features and such, but I would rather be able to use the ones already available. The speed of the site while editing or even navigating sometimes, is unbelievably slow. It can take a few to 15-20 seconds to save an edit. This makes using the site incredibly frustrating. After just recently upgrading to Ascendant, I am starting to regret the investment and am eyeing other alternatives.

I notice that a big hangout seems to be "sending request to facebook.com" and then "waiting on obsidian portal". Why is anything getting sent to Facebook, and what exactly is getting sent?

I love how this system works, but I cannot tolerate how slow things are. Is there some hope that things will improve... soon?

Feature Requests Foreword

Like the category description states, this board is all about answering one question: "What does Obsidian Portal need to be the ultimate destination for tabletop gamers?" It's a question that will always be relevant, and requires us to consult the people who understand the necessities and desires of our target audience better than anyone else - you, the users!

That being the case, posts here should be constructive and centered around things like (1) suggestions for new features that would be useful or beneficial, (2) Advancements or augmentations to existing features that would improve them, and (3) process tweaks that would make the site more efficient or otherwise qualify as 'quality of life' improvements.

The obvious disclaimer here is that there is no guarantee of any given idea or suggestion being implemented. As community and content manager, I can put user suggestions in front of the development team, and I can give my input with a certain level of influence, but ultimately there are numerous other factors that go into the calculus.

So bring forth your suggestions, ideas and brainstorms. I look forward to reading them all.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but is there not a button to jump from the Community/Boards page back to campaign pages? I hate having to have two windows open, or have to go back several times to get to campaigns. I'd definitely appreciate something like this.

User interface

I was a paid subscriber for a long time at this site but bailed when the UI was changed and we now only have about a third of the screen to actually put notes in, with fully half the screen being completely wasted empty space. I found this to be completely unusable and haven't come back. I do occasionally pop my head in to see if the issue's been fixed, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Figured I'd check to see if there has been a feature added I don't know about that maybe gets rid of the border?

After a few years, and many games on OP, my Campaigns dropdown menu is becoming very long!

It would be incredibly helpful if I could somehow mark campaigns on my profile page as inactive, so that they no longer showed up in the Campaigns dropdown menu, without having to leave the campaign entirely. There are a number of games that I've played in that are no longer active, so I don't need them in the dropdown, but I still want to keep them on my profile page.

Similarly, there are games that I've run that are finished or on hiatus that I don't need to see in the dropdown, but I don't want to delete them entirely. Perhaps in such cases this is something that could be done automatically if a game's Campaign Status is changed to 'On Hiatus' or 'Completed'?

PDF Character Sheets

What would be nice is if you could make a character's page a PDF (ie click on the character and it goes directly to a PDF in your browser). Many games provide PDFs and most browsers can read them. And making PDFs (or using official character sheet PDFs from the game creator) is much easier to deal with than the current DST character sheet creation on OP.

Dice Roller Within Forum Posts

Perhaps Im missing an already available feature, but I would love to have the ability to post die rolls as part of forum posts, so that they are visible to all players. Then I could use Obsidian Portal to run and play in play-by-post campaigns. I know lots of people who would purchase Ascendant packages for that capability.

I noticed that this feature was requested in 2011, but I havent seen that any action has been taken on that. I apologize if Im just missing it!

"All selected tags" filter

I'm sure this has been requested before, but just in case; it would be extremely helpful to be able to have an option on the Characters page when selecting tags to only show pages that have all selected tags, rather than showing every page that has any of the selected tags.

Log of Chronicle Updates

This may already exist and I just don't know how to access. If so, I apologize for posting in the wrong place.

On the Dashboard, you can see your campaign's 7 most recent updates. It would be great if there was a way to access that entire log going back as far as it could. Many of my players (and probably most of yours) only log into the site before game day and it would be really fantastic if they could see a list of all the pages that have been updated since the last time they logged in.

Is this already possible? If not, please consider it a feature request.

Wiki Categories or Tag Pages

Similar to media wiki base functionality, I am looking to add category pages or category-like functionality off of wiki tags.

For instance, if I wanted to have a list of people related to a town, I would mark their pages with that tag, but also have the list of pages with that tag visible in the page.

Mostly I am trying to eliminate manual entry.

Limit Non-GM Editing

I just bought ascendant and am highly disappointed there is no option to limit access to editing pages. For me it defeats the purpose of having a forum section. Can this feature please be introduced? I understand that CSS can be edited to do this function but I am not comfortable enough to edit it.

I just saw a thread ( What is this in my Custom CSS field? ) in the CSS & Styling Discussion section of the forum, and it made me think that there is a lot of information shared in the forums, but that it is not always easy to find what you are looking for, so why not start compiling it in a wiki about OP. Ideally all OP users could access it, and it could include example CSS and links to campaigns that use that CSS, along with other tips and tricks

GM-Player Only Dynamic Character Sheets

As-is, there seems to be no way to limit the viewing of dynamic character sheets to a single (or set of) players, I initially thought the 'is this character a secret' tickbox combined with a player secret would work, but it turns out that it Obsidian Portal doesn't even allow for that. Part of the fun that my players and I have is keeping a bit of mystery around what each character can do, and if that's visible for every player, then that's no longer present, so Obsidian Portal really just ends up being a slightly tidier replacement to a pinned Pastebin in our announcements area.

tl;dr: Please allow for private Dynamic Character Sheets. It'd be quite useful for my campaign, and I assume other people's campaigns as well.

Currently the Serenity rules system is listed as the only iteration of cancelled television show/movie universe acknowledged on this site. However, the game system called Serenity was discontinued over ten years ago and a newer system entitled Firefly is the more recently produced game set in this universe. Could it please get added to the list of game systems?

Hi There,

I have been an Ascent member for over a year now, and a member of OP as a regular member for over three years. What I like about Obsidian Portal, is it manages to provide a number of utilities as tools to a gaming table from an on-line presentation format. I am provided a number of tools that I can choose to dismiss, or choose to utilize. There is no ability to hide the tools you do not wish to use, but I can get around that easy enough through other ways.

This is going to be a post about a specific issue, but I did want to take the time to say that it doesn't cripple my Obsidian Portal experience. Though the reforge site is much prettier and far more intuitive, I find that the narrow window for wiki was a bit of an oversight on the developers part. Not only is the wiki essentially the backbone of the campaign tools, it likely has the most content other than characters within each respective campaign. By making considerable changes to the width, we are essentially required to reformat every wiki page to look 'clean'. If you view the new Characters section, the width is appropriate and allows for a better experience with modern wide screen monitors. But in the wiki, a huge chunk of what I consider usable width space is If I had the option of using the old structure with the re-purposed for a 'Last Update' header. While 'Last Update' is a useful retained tool, borrowing from the wiki width is far from ideal. I'd really like the OP wiki space to return to a reasonable width. Is anyone else bothered by this change, or is it just me?

I personally would rather use the old format if it means having usable wiki space. Other than that one very specific point, I am quite happy with what I'm seeing of the product. For now I am going to see if others around the world agree with this post.

I really need a way to organize the characters in my campaigns

They come, they go, they die, they are replaced, they need to be saved for later. I need some ability to organize them a bit, put them in the order I need them in for easy viewing, etc. I'm sure this will instantly be taken care of and I'll be using these new features tonight. However, should that not happen, please do consider it for your next update.

Ability to restrict and lock threads

I am using the forum for between-session RP and would like the ability to do some additional things with it:

1. It would be nice to be able to restrict which players have the ability to contribute to a thread. This would help keep a scene involving certain players tightly bound to those players.

2. Once a scene is completed, it would be nice to have the ability to lock the thread.

(Feel free to direct me to the correct thread if these have been suggested before)
