While there's still a long row to hoe in terms of resolving bugs and support tickets, and building out the features promised in the reforge, with the progress towards those goals picking up I've been giving some thought to what _new_ features I'd like. Andrew has talked about focusing on improving the wiki (because it's the core feature), and on dynamic character sheets (because they're a unique selling point), and I figure it's better to have ideas than not, so I have a few suggestions.

What would you add to the list?

h3. Wiki System Improvements

* *Collapsible Sections* - Make it so that sections within a page can be collapsed to keep the page compact. Attach this functionality to the header tags automatically, and let us specify in the tag whether a section should default to visible or collapsed. Useful for hiding spoilers and such as well.

* *Section Anchors* - Automatically apply an anchor tag to section headers in a page, so we can quickly and easily link to particular sections in the page using just an address. Add an option to the link creator for pointing at sections, and an option in wiki links too: [[page#section]].

* *Automatic Table of Contents* - Add an automatic table of contents for wiki pages, in the right hand navigation area, which outlines the contents of a page based on its section heads, with links to scroll the page to each of the sections.

* *Hover Note Tag* - Add a tag to the wiki system which lets us attach help balloons to text and other content, as the modern age's version of foot-notes. Highlight text that has foot notes, so users know there's more information there.

* *Allow Rowspan and Colspan* - Allow users creating HTML tables in their wiki pages to use the rowspan and colspan attributes, so that they have the whole range of normal table layout tools at their disposal.

* *Sortable Tables* - When users create a table using the textile syntax, use a script to make it automatically sortable, so that when a user clicks on one of the column headers he or she can sort it up or down by that column. Add syntax to disable this for any given table.

* *Wiki Templates* - Enable users to create pages which are built as templates to be included in other pages, so that content can be shared between pages easily. Build it something like the "Wikipedia templates system":https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Template, so it can have data driven values.

* *Work In Progress Saving* - Periodically save a user's edits on a page in progress, either to the server or just to local storage, so that work on a page is never lost in the event of any kind of connectivity issues or accidental actions. See draft saving in many other sites.

* *Inline Maps* - Enable users to place maps from their campaign's map page inline within a wiki page, using a special tag. This is a much more natural context for maps in most cases. Let the tag point to specific locations and zoom levels, to frame the default view position.

h3. Dynamic Sheet Improvements

* *Central Code Library* - Provide support for a centralized library of DST code that users can share among themselves and use on multiple DSTs. This would enable centralize bug fixing, and help more people build good DSTs without as much advanced technical knowledge.

* *Sheet Image Library* - Add image uploading to the sheet submission process, so that the images needed for a sheet can be attached directly to it, rather than DST creators having to figure out their own image hosting solutions.

* *Auto-Save Drafts* - As for wiki pages above, it would be great if changes to a sheet were auto-saved periodically, so that there was a reduced chance of losing changes by accident for whatever reason.

* *API Integration* - Fully integrate the DST system with the API, to enable things like importers and exporters from popular character creator tools. Try to set up some partnerships with one or more of these where they could support cloud sync of characters.

* *Updated DST Sandbox* - Update the DST sandbox package that's available to make it actually work with the latest version of the DST system, and include a fuller feature set, so that DST creators can actually work on development in a local environment.

* *Updated DST Documentation* - Do a complete pass over the DST system documentation, making sure it's all up to date and consistent. Add more information about how to get started, and thoroughly document any new features.

* *Dynamic Layout* - Launch an initiative to update DSTs so that they support dynamic layout and are generally more useful on mobile devices, so that users can more easily bring their electronic character sheets to the table.

* *Printable Sheets* - Add CSS to the character page and launch an initiative where sheets should be set up with the correct print media CSS to be quickly and easily printed out by users. Bring our DSTs to even the most old-school table top.

I've just come back to OP after not GMing for a while, and while I was sad to see that MashupForge was no more, I was pleased that I could upload a map and store waypoints within OP now. One thing I'd really like to do is set up waypoints for all of the various locations I have planned for my PCs to visit in advance, so that it's easy to keep track of where things are going to happen. I didn't see any option to set a pin to GM only, though, so I'm currently just calling them "POI", and I'll link to the wiki/adventure log page once the PCs have gotten there, but even that gives more away than I'd like.

Am I missing where this feature already exists, or is it one that would need to be added?

When I first found Obsidian Portal, apparently in 2011, I think the Wiki was fully present on the home page like an index.

Now I do not like that there is a static home page and you have to select "see all pages" on the right to see what it in the Wiki. Can this be changed. I'm obviously not using it much but thought I'd try to catch up the Wiki to the campaign as it looks like we may play again next month. Apparently we have a habit of taking a 12 month break... this will be the third one where we pickup a year after we left off...

So to help get everyone back on the same virtual page, is there a setting that will display the Wiki page/entry titles by default so you can go to the Wiki, see what is available at a glance and then go to the entry you want?

This will help me see what has been done and update it. I'm hoping there is a setting to achieve this. Thanks.

I thought this idea would be great. Basically I have a custom campaign setting and multiple groups running different adventures within this campaign. It would be great to allow everyone to use the same resource rather than have to make an entirely new "campaign" per group.

It would be nice to be able to include everyone into the single campaign, but flag each member - so like Group 1, Group 2, Group 3.

If I put up some information about an NPC, or a page on the wiki etc, I may only want group 1 to be able to see this, and not group 2. Basically adding viewing "permissions" to each group.

With this implemented You can have 1 campaign and run different groups within that 1 campaign.

This gives me hope, given that I very carefully used Header (h1, h2, etc.) tags in Textile to organize my documents in the hopes that one day OP would implement an auto-Table of Contents option, and all my pages would retroactively receive tables of contents.

So that's my feature request: An auto-table of contents feature for Wiki pages.

Something that would be an amazing feature to have in campaign maps would be plotting and calculating distance of waypoints on a map. And I don't mean just the distance between 2 markers, but an actual route of waypoints that a DM can draw directly onto a map.

As a proof of concept (because I've been searching for any tool that isn't Roll20 to do this), I came across this measure distance map that was created in 2006 and is still working. As you can see in the sidebar, there are options to clear all points, clear previous, and to swap measurements between km and mi.

Having just that bare-bones functionality would be AMAZING for simply tracking distance, allowing a DM to use the one-off distance for days traveled, speed by vehicle, random encounters per day/distance, pro/con of a shortcut vs trade routes, or whatever else they can think of.

If they were save-able as layers to the map, that would be even more amazing, allowing views that could track a games progress with the PCs travel progress. I imagine a session were PCs make a distance travel, and then decide to take the shortcut through the swamp that the old man told them about instead of the trade road, but they get lost and travel randomly because their ranger rolled a 1.

I'm sure there would be some difficulties in setting this up, like having the correct image size or ratio to the specific zoom range of the Google Maps implementation, but this is something I have been searching for and I imagine others have as well.

Obsidian Portal Badge Renewal Initiative

I want to preface this with the statement that this topic is being introduced with no official support (yet) by any duly authorized representative of OP. That said, let's get right to it.

OP Badges. Why are there so few?

Let's brainstorm for badges that seem reasonable to award people (not campaigns) based on measurable criteria. Frankly, I am only familiar with a select few, so let's start with that list.

* 1 year mark
* 3 year mark
* Ascendant
* GM of a campaign
* GM of a featured campaign (which I assume to mean CotM)
* Played in a featured campaign (see above)

Even looking at other player profiles, that's all that I can find. So what are some other ideas for badges? Here are some ones that I can come up with. The names are, of course, open to change as well...

* 5 year mark (confirmed not provided), maybe even more? Every two years seems reasonable.
* Reforge Heroes (promised in the "Kickstarter":https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/252020431/obsidian-portal-reforged/description at Adventurer level or higher)
* Vanguard Hero (this is the "only thread":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3441&page=1#Item_9 that I could find that made references to the who they were, but I know it is incomplete)
* CotM Winner
* CotY Winner
* Fanmonger, level 1 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 2 fans
* Fanmonger, level 2 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 5 fans
* Fanmonger, level 3 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 10 fans
* Fanmonger, level 4 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 25 fans
* Fanmonger, level 5 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 50 fans
* Fanmonger, level 6 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 100 fans
* Fanmonger, level 7 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 150 fans
* Fanmonger, level 8 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 200 fans
* Fanmonger, level 9 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 250 fans
* Fanmonger, level 10 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 300 fans
* Fanmonger, level 11 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 350 fans
* Fanmonger, level 12 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 400 fans
* Fanmonger, level 13 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 450 fans
* Fanmonger, level 14 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 500 fans
* MegaCampaign, level 1 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 50 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 2 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 100 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 3 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 150 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 4 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 200 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 5 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 250 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 6 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 300 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 7 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 350 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 8 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 400 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 9 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 450 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 10 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 500 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 11 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 550 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 12 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 600 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 13 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 650 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)
* MegaCampaign, level 14 - requires GM'ing a campaign with 700 pages (wiki, adventure log, etc.)

_Note that the leveled badges would only show the highest achievement._

So what ideas can everyone else come up with? How can we revitalize the badge system in OP and make it actually meaningful?

This is a place to discuss the dynamic character sheets (ie. DSTs) that we're working on.

"READ THIS FIRST":http://help.obsidianportal.com/faqs/advanced/creating-a-dynamic-character-sheet-template-dst

If that makes no sense to you and you have no idea what HTML/CSS is, then this thread probably isn't for you. This is a very technical discussion, but it will hopefully result in something that is easy to use and requires no technical background at all. Once everything is in place, we'll make an announcement about how to use the dynamic character sheets.

But, if you've read the DST FAQ and have any questions or suggestions, then by all means please post. My hope is that all of us together are smarter than me by myself.

*Update*: I've added the "developer kit":http://d26snb5x2x7cfb.cloudfront.net/dst_devkit/dst_devkit-0.1.zip This should allow you to see what I'm working on and how it all works. Suggestions welcome.

*Update 2*: As per suggestions, I have moved the dev kit to public code hosting "on github":http://github.com/obsidianportal/dynamic_sheet_templates This will be where all sheets are stored as well. Hopefully this will make it easier to collaborate.

What I would love to see is much bigger map sizes aloud (like 11mb) and any shape aloud (rectangle) and markers with location names that you can place on the map as the DM which link to a wiki page. This would make large sandbox campaigns incredibly easier to manage. Sharing thoughts as I try to organize a huge map of the ancient Mediterranean for my newly started Ancient Greek campaign.

Allow GM's to define the stats and skills for their campaign in a generic way.

These would be simple name/value pairs with the option of groups. Groups could be used to separate Attributes from Skills for example.

This would allow for a lot of customization with a relatively simple schema.

My cmapaign uses a lot of documents and props (letters, missives, dossiers, etc.) It would be really nice to allow for a file repository so these could be stored in my OP and added in the same way as image and wiki links are, instead of having to store them on Dropbox and add external links. I realize this would increase the need for file storage space, so make it a feature that's only available to Ascendant members.

The stream that shows up on our dashbaord page shows the most recent 7 updates, but our DM often makes edits in blocks of 10-20 at a time on his "editing nights".

Can that bit of text have a link on the bottom that links to an "all stream" page, where you show the entire history of the campaign edits newest-oldest (and maybe with pagination, but that's a secondary request).

As it is now, if there's been a bunch of edits/updates all at once, I basically have to go through all of the characters, wiki entries, etc, just to find out what's been updated and/or added.

If this is too much work, maybe just a view that shows all of the Wiki/Character pages with a last edit/update date on them to let me see which ones were edited since our weekly play session, etc.

In an ideal world you could select already uploaded art for character portraits. so that I don't have to upload them twice. The character portrait art also doesn't not let me drag from my desktop to upload. I have to go find the file which is not ideal.

It would also be great if once I select the art I want to have the option to zoom or select a portion or the art to display as the portrait while the full image is linked inside the character profile.

Mentioned this a while ago, and had some good feedback from other users. Just reposting to act as a reminder to the developers =)
