I wrote to the author of this app asking if I may see / use the code for a GM only page in OP. Alternatively I am gonna say that this community might be able to come up with a better solution maybe? Can anyone produce something like this that would also display the actual weather for each region in their campaign?Like have different versions running to give a weather report anytime you went into a page of the OP site.

Hi all.

I've noticed that there's a lot of Rise of the Runelord campaigns on Obsidian portal. Personally - I think that's great.
But I was wondering if any GM that runs such a campaign would like to set up a sort-of web ring. Effectively, I'll add a link on my wiki page (other Runelord campaigns) to your site, if you'll do the same.

I visit other ROTRL campaign pages to see how things are going; what the GMs have changed or specifically detailed for their campaigns. Sometimes I borrow (pointing people to the author's site), sometimes I modify (citing the originator), and sometimes I do both. It's fun and, in the long run, can really cut down on my workload.

Looking forward to replies (and hoping to hear more than crickets).

I would like to implement the idea of Evil Overlords (http://www.treasuretables.org/files/Evil-Overlords-TT006free.pdf) in my campaign. I have three friends who live out of state and I use to game with. They are willing to take on three factions in my campaign world to help give it a more 'real life' feel to it by injecting 'reasoned randomness' into the campaign.

I want them to update information on my portal to cover what their factions do. But.... I want there to be the public information, the information they keep to themselves & myself and also a GM section. In some ways that would mean modeling the organization like a character.

So far so good. But it would be nice to have an 'organization' log which tracks their actions each month. Keeping that all in the 'character area' is going to get messy after a while. Also I don't want to make them co-GMs because some of what they do will be interactions with each other. It would be best if they didn't know what the other faction is doing.

As for my table-top group all they would know is there would be additional information about what various factions are doing. Heck even I might be surprised.

Got any ideas on how to implement this on the Portal? Or do I need to ask for a new feature - Organizations & Organization Logs - which can be assigned to player?

Back-Linking

Alright; I've been working on my wiki now for some time (on and off) - "Erdon":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/erdon/wikis/useful-editing-info - and been doing much of it on the fly, restructuring as needed; mostly concerned with the content. Recently however, I've come to realize that I will likely want to revise, and possibly revamp the system when it (eventually) comes to where I'm ready to call it "good enough".

In preparation for this (and other) possibilities, I thought I'd see if anyone knew of a way to find "all pages that link here" without A) manually creating immediate, individual back-links for every new (and pre-existing) page, or B) combing through every possible navigation option from the top. I figured I'd pose the question before things got completely out of hand, or before I started going through to manually complete the task. The second reason I have is that I hope it will serve as a way to ensure against pages lacking back-links, which I do intend to have (at least in some form) wherever it may be appropriate.

Of immediate concern is the issue of changing information on a page that may be referenced by other pages. For example, if I were to change the name of a class (for some strange reason) that was listed on the class reference page, and I had had other pages discussing the class in question by its previous name, but which linked through the class reference page, no link would be broken, but there would be a discrepancy in need of resolution. (The more likely scenario would be changing the name of a city or person or organization).

Thanks in advance!

Visibility of Characters and Items?

Is there any way to hide characters, and items as well, like you can your campaigns? I don't really mind having all my various PCs listed for public view, that's fine. The problem is clicking on my profile apparently shows every NPC I've made for every campaign I'm running. That's an awful lot of characters and generally messy as they're not even divided by campaign, just alphabetically. For example, my main campaign is about 30 villagers and all the family and people that each of them know. So if someone clicks on that for it's intended use, to see who I'm personally playing in games, they'll be lost in a horde of NPC villagers.

Plus, I really can't have some of those things public. Some I just don't want my players to see ahead of time; some are things I'm hoping to sell in the future, and others are IP I made while at Mattel that can't be publicly shown, and are only intended to be seen by previous co-workers. Personally I'd be fine with the other extreme and make them all private, if there was a way.

Is there a way to make characters (and items) private? Fingers crossed! At the very least, couldn't we have the option to only have characters you make appear on your profile if the "player character" box is selected? That would instantly solve my problem as I currently only have one game I'm a player in, and all the others would disappear from my profile. Again, I don't *think* there's any issue with the character tab in the individual campaigns, since they also have a "GM only" box, and campaigns can be private. It's only things visible through my personal profile that I'm talking about.

If there's no option for that, it would force me to use the Wiki section for everything and skip the characters entirely. That's doubly bad because I've been desperately trying to get my players to sign up for accounts here; they're already resistant by what they see as too complicated to deal with, but if they can't use the character section for characters the notion's just going to turn them off to the whole thing.

I read in another thread, someone mentioned that OP started out as a way to share campaigns with the world and privacy isn't the point. To be fair, noble as that is, that wasn't in any of the marketing material that got me to join. I just wanted to pay for a service that I could use privately to help run my games. That's really all I was looking for.

I"ve started something rather larger than intended and now find myself in over my head. I've got a homebrew world, homebrew character sheets, and a good sized chunk of homebrew rules. But my players deserve everything I can give them though, right? I've made them custom characters before, but my players still feel a little limited and hate feats. We have all the books and we all tend to spends hours going through the 500+ feats of 3.5e because they want the perfect feat for their character, if not their class. They love the world, which plays like Avatar: the Last Airbender by way of Final Fantasy XII and Zelda. They love the simplified Character Sheets and the open-ended rules, but how can I simplify classes and feats? I've been looking at the Skill Tree System from blizzard( namely WoW's and Diablo's) and the Sphere System from FFX. I want to steer away from flow breakers, and am looking for systems that incorperate skill and ability bonuses. If you have a system that you're working on, or that you perfected that is sort of what I'm looking for I would love to hear from you. I am looking for a way to get away from classes all-together, and prefer point systems, as do my players. Alot of what I have done is inspired by games I have played, so don't be afraid to point me to somewhere you pulled from. I've pulled from MTG, Mass Effect, Diablo II, Hellboy, etc. Even if I don't use your system your way, I may like one or more ideas. Please help, and if I use even a small part of your system, or even change it, I will give you credit.
After seeing the announcement of the added background feature, I'm thinking about submitting a couple backgrounds. A stone background with torches? Temple ruins? I'm looking for more generic environments that many people can use. I would love to hear your suggestions!

While a WIP thread already exists here at the forums, I decided to create a WIP page specifically for anyone wishing to submit their current map projects to the forums for critique. Also, for those of you wishing to create your own maps, if you are not already familiar with the site, I would highly recommend checking out the "Cartographers Guild":http://forum.cartographersguild.com/index.php?referrerid=15127. It's a site devoted to map making and there are tons of really helpful resources there for people just getting started and for experts alike. In addition, I would also recommend taking a look at "A Magical Society Guide to Mapping":http://paizo.com/store/games/roleplayingGames/m/aMagicalSociety/v5748btpy82tc, a free pdf resource to aid in fantasy map-making. There is also a helpful thread here at the forums on the topic of "Designing Fantasy Countries and Cultures":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1171. That said, I look forward to seeing your contribution to this thread.
Banging my head against the wall here. If I can't store all my NPC info on here, that means I'll have to revert back to keeping/organizing this info on my computer, which is troublesome 'cause I do this work across three different platforms (home PC, iPad, work PC) and liked the idea of a "cloud-like" service for my campaign.
They were originally designed to work for 4E, but, I'm finding the "generic" version actually gives the GM a great deal more flexibility in regards to what kind of benefits the cards give. I originally posted a little bit about them in my S.P.I.R.E. campaign (actually, technically, they go much further back, but...) - take a look if ya like.

Though the obsidian portal isn't quite up yet, Heroes of the NentirVale is for now found at :

It will be an online game with multiple DM's running the same character 'pool.' So your character can be in multiple campaigns at one time. It is in the creation process, but it will be run on OpenRPG ( http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg ) on a variety of nights. Much like RPGA or any of the Living campaigns.

You can DM, be a player, or both. We would like to hold weekly encounter type events, along with other tier specific special events where you can gain magical items as rewards and 'Get out of Death Free cards.'

Feel free to hit us up with any advice, or if your interested in being involved in the planning process, as we could use the help!!!
Thank you all!

Hey, all:

I am looking for players in Southeast Michigan interested in regular gaming in a rich game world, full of cool story and intrigue!

The system would be something pretty similar to 3rd edition D&D--a system called the Arcanis roleplaying game.

I'm specifically organizing games of a living campaign called Legends of Arcanis, which you can also read about on the Arcanis website.

I'm willing to teach the system and have several GMs lined up, including me, but I need more players!

Please reply to this forum post or contact me at cooneypete at yahoo dot com if you're interested.

Thanks!

Hello all. I'm looking to start a play-by-post game using the Runequest 2 system for a Deus Vult Campaign. I would like to know if something like this is supported by Obsidian Portal. I know that there are forums but is there a way to use the forums and dice roller together? In some forums I have seen in the past there is a dice feature that creates a random roll when a post is made. Do the forums here do this?

Can a campaign that has come to it's natural conclusion and therefore has ended still be eligible to win the Featured Campaign of the Month contest even after it's end? Feel free to chime in everyone as I'd love to hear what the community thinks of this one.
