Morning All.

I am the current GM of a Pathfinder Campaign - Reclamation the Stolen Lands (https://reclamation-the-stolen-lands.obsidianportal.com/). This is our version of the Paizo Kingmaker Campaign and has been running steadily for almost 7 months now (with a small hiatius due to the confusion created by the re-forging).

We have a healthy gaming group of myself and three other players, all based in Canberra or Sydney, Australia. All of us are gaming buddies that either through time or distance, have found it difficult to find sufficient time to do face to face gaming, so have been playing via posting. It has been slow, steady and yet rewarding.

Anyway, we are looking for a new player to join our group. We are looking for a mature person, that is friendly, knows the Pathfinder rules pretty well (but isnt a hardcore rules lawyer) and is happy to post on a regular 2 to 3 day schedule. as this is a play by post game, we would also expect that this person is literate and able to write in a clear, imaginative and descriptive manner.

The current group is made up of a human cleric, half-orc bard and shadeling ranger. So there is a plenty of room for a front row fighter, druid, mage, sorceror, witch, summoner or whatever you want!

If you believe you are this person, please drop me a line here. Please tell me a bit about yourself, your gaming experience, preferred style of play and so on. Also happy for you to direct me to any previous posting or gaming online you have participated in.

Look forward to hearing from you!
When I edit an existing page, the tags dissapear. When editing a second time and writing up new tags, they stick until I edit the page again.
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? Is the devs aware of the issue?

I really like the reforge! There is always issues with such a complex CMS, and they are often very hard to spot before publishing.

This may or may not be the appropriate place to ask for this but I have noticed that there's no way to "leave" a campaign, other than having the GM take you out of it. In some cases (such as the GM no longer being around) that' is not possible.

Those campaigns then sit, taking up space on your profile, and there's no way to remove them.

I don't know about other end users opinions, but I feel it would be a useful ability to be able to "opt out" of them, so they are removed from your profile.

So my campaign is about a cirkus of secret superheroes in 1947.
They start off in Norway and will probably be based there, because of the nazis interest in the country and their obsession with norse mythology and the occult.
But I think I might want the players to eventually venture into other countries on missions to encounter more foreign threats than summoned nazi-trolls, evil übermensch, and panzer-men.

It`s a superhero universe, so history is more or less alternative, but how was the world in 1947? What happened in different countries that year? How did people look and act like in france or spain as an example? Or even in Cairo and Tibet?

To begin with I`m mostly interested in knowing Scandinavia and the closest countries, like Russia, UK, Finland, Germany and such, but that might change.

If you have any info or interesting fact, trivia or description of a country and its culture and people in 1947, I would be really Grateful!
If you want to, you can suggest cultural superstitions or mythological threats the heroes could encounter aswell:)

I loved running the mobile site for obsidian portal because I didn't have to worry about a lot of things loading, it was easy to use, had thumb-sized buttons, and loaded quite quickly.

But it is gone now. Just...gone. Now my phone and tablet loads the entire desktop site, which takes forever, and doesn't seem to work correctly either (I have an Android). When I zoom in, any number of things (dividers?) move into the area I was trying to click with large gorilla hands, taking over the whole screen, meaning I must click things many times before I get the result I like, as I click at least two links when it isn't zoomed in. Also, when I type, it takes a long time for the text to appear. This happens on two devices so far, my Galaxy Note II and my Kindle Fire HD.

Why did you get rid of the fast loading, clean, concise, and easy to use mobile site? Is there ever going to be a mobile version of OP, or will it forever be the slow and clunky desktop site? Unlike some who've complained, I have found great use for OP, and it is a great place to store my campaigns' data, so I'm not going to 'leave' because of this, but it was nice to be able to pull up the site on my Kindle and show everyone a picture of a character while they passed it around, instead of having to flip my laptop back and forth, and just before the relaunch, the mobile site was running even better than before, and I figured that that was because of the relaunch; I guess I was wrong.

Is there any plans to get the site to run better than it currently does on mobiles?

I’m feeling pretty good about the forums now that I've gotten used to interface. It’s fewer clicks to hop across forum topics, and it’s much easier to manually scan the posts since you don’t have to keep clicking to get to the next batch of ten. Big usability improvement over Preforge. Caveat: my campaign did not and does not use sub-forums.

I like the "last login" tracker on the dashboard. We're PbP. During Preforge, I had to manually search for a player's most recent forum post to figure out if I should send a participation warning. The "last login" tracker is a big time-saver and gives me confidence I haven't missed a more recent post.

Hi There,

I noticed there a lot of quality users out there capable of creating custom CSS that gets the job done where the reforged site has failed us.

I have a request concerning the character page.

I love the new layout visually, save for two major failing points:
1. The main concern is that the characters listed as Player Characters are no longer sorted in any fashion at the top. This was a very useful feature that allowed you to prioritize you PC's in a sorting fashion, without having to use the tags.
2. The character pages no longer contain the picture provided in the preview window.

If anyone is willing to put in the time, I could really see value in custom css that:
- Sorts the Character Page by PC or not PC, potentially with Headers designating both.
- Adds the uploaded character picture in the individual Character Page itself.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

The reforge has made OP almost unusable to me.

I don't understand CSS, although I can copy and paste, but if it goes wrong- and it sometimes does, or else I C&P it wrong- or in to the wrong place, then I've no understanding of why or how to fix it.

The site looks... horrible, I've tried changing colours and playing about with the size of the banners, and... and I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm reading forum threads and trying to make sense of them- trying to get OP to look kinda like it did before the reforge- but I can't get it right.

I can't get OP to upload images, or embed images, or even allow me to do the stuff that I did last week, every day last week- as in prior to the reforge I happily whiled away an hour or so most every day on my campaign site- just adding things, writing up stuff for my players (with pictures etc.), now- I just don't get it.

So, why am I paying for something that doesn't do what it did last week?

More's the point why is anyone paying for this?

One stage further- why are we being charged for this?

I get that things will get better, but why release something that patently doesn't work? Isn't there a way to test things prior to running them?

I apologise I'm not a computer guy, I figure there are lots of people (probably) behind the scenes trying to fix things- or at least I hope there are. I've done my best to go through the forums- trying to find an official 'this is what's happening', or 'this is where we're at', or anything- maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Is there anything?

Prior to the reforge OP was a god send, a place I could go- click a button, make a new page to use in or out of game- upload images and other files; and generally show off- if only to myself and my players, all the cool things we've done together.

Now... it's broken.

I apologise again for sounding so negative but I regularly access only maybe 5 or 6 sites on the internet, is this normal?

Is there an announcement somewhere I'm missing- help?

Overview of Reforge failure

While the title may seem harsh, I think it is quite appropriate, and I will explain why.

Meagoinc rather succinctly pointed out the purpose of OP to most every gamer here - a tool to improve the game, most often as an immersive tool to help you feel like you are really in the setting. It's not just an overglorified notepad for tracking notes, it's meant and used as a medium to support the game; whether as the primary vessel (like with PBP through the forums) or as an adjunct to table-top games. This core purpose seems to have been lost in the Reforge - at least in terms of UI changes. I love a lot of the discussed back-end changes, although much of it seems to be broken (tags) or stretch goals not yet gotten to (natural editing). What we are faced with instead are drastic UI changes seemingly meant to hype OP (gargantuan OP header? Really?) or make it look like a smart-phone app instead of a simplified canvas that allowed even the free members some decent modicum of creating their own masterpiece to accompany and enhance their game. Now, the usable space is drastically diminished (both width and height), and we can't get away from certain elements always looking like they just stepped out of an I-phone. Not exactly immersive when your setting is medieval fantasy, old west, WWII, or any other number of settings that aren't strictly modern-day. Even for ascendant members, the options to change things boils down to undoing what was changed as an "upgrade", giving us the freedom to downgrade the UI changes to get back to a campaign focused on delivering content rather than a pretty, modern UI with lots of clean, unused space. It feels like the horrible violin player that hangs out by your table who you pay to go away. If this is meant as incentive to free members to upgrade, I doubt that it is having that effect. It's not even about specific campaigns needing to be redone (I haven't even looked at my most heavily CSS'd campaign yet, and probably won't for at least a week), it's about the members feeling like their needs were ignored. Will OP lose members over this? I'm afraid they will - you can do quite a bit of modding on a GuildPortal.com site to give the feel you want and the forum (and subforum) structure you need. Heck, even Wikia.com may serve better for providing an immersive experience now, at least in terms of free access. Again, I sincerely doubt driving people away was the objective, but sadly the UI changes seem likely to do just that if the forums are any indication.

Devs: I can appreciate the desire to make a bright, shiny app that looks like modern apps today (at least for smart phones). That said, you also need to understand your target audience, and in this case it feels like this really wasn't done in terms of the UI. The decision to limit beta testing to a select few who paid for the privilege was an exceedingly poor decision as well, as it limited feedback before roll-out. There is a reason why professional software companies (game, app, whatever) have closed (but free) betas followed by open betas - more feedback BEFORE you are judged on results is always better. By choosing to have a paid beta program, you not only limited your feedback and shot yourself in the foot, but you also changed your beta demographics, which skews results and ends up with the uproar you have now. While this can't be undone, I do believe there is a step that can be done to help address the frustration.

I would heavily suggest that you restore the old OP structure, then open up a beta on a sandbox server with access to all ascendant features (for anyone, ascendant or otherwise). Don't stress that it's October and your original target was August, focus instead on "getting it right". Let people make as many campaigns as they want, with the understanding that it is temporary for testing purposes only and will all be wiped at least every two weeks. Work with beta feedback, which will be far less fueled by emotion than folks having their hard work (often months of effort) go down the drain (at least by perception). This also gives the devs time to address issues calmly rather than in emergency mode, which is better for everyone. From a business standpoint, I also think this will do wonders for damage control and prevent a great deal of potentially lost business. Again, I'm not saying go back to the old OP permanently, but the new stuff simply wasn't ready for distribution, and your paying customers are the ones suffering for it.

There is no shame in saying "we jumped the gun, we're not ready, but we will put things back and want everyone's help going forward to make this the best gaming tool possible". The gaming community is generally pretty good at helping when needed (from my experience), but they are also quick to react when they feel they have been victimized.

Just my two cents, and I hope it is taken in the constructive manner in which it is meant.
