Hey everyone,

Wanted to stop in quick to let everyone know my status. Went to the doctor today and found I have a bacterial infection in my lungs. I am on a series of meds to clear this up, but it has me pretty down and out right now. This will result in me being in a little less than usual over the next day or two here. I apologize about this, but thought you should all be aware.

Talk to you all soon, and keep on gaming!

OK so anyone who will check out my page will see that we just finished part 1 of my 1-20 campaign, and part 2 will be going through the entire Under mountain but in a homebrew storyline. My players have never been here (3 PC, 3 NPC), but they know of Halaster and history behind it.

Today we started, playing a short 3 hour session. There was one battle and a trap, they only got through 4 rooms. We have hundreds more to get through and I don't want every session sounding like this.
DM: you enter a room (details etc.)
Guy: I check for traps
Guy 2: I check too
Girl: I'm checking for traps too
They roll
DM: you see no traps
Guy2: I search check for anything special in room
Girl: I'm rolling a check too
Guy 1: I'm also rolling
DM: go ahead (waits) there is a table with a burnt out candle.

This will lead to half a dozen questions asked about it at the same time.
"Its copper. 1.5 lbs. No there are three candles, half used. Nothing behind it.
Girl: I'm gonna pick it up.
Guy 1: I'm gonna stand outside the door then
Guy 2: I feel the walls for any divots or anything.
DM: you pick it up.
Guy 2: so nothing special about the candle.
DM: its just a regular candle.

This process will go on with every item in the room. It takes 20 minutes to get them to fully grasp everything and be ok.
Usually one person wants to check this out while someone else goes to spot check the thingie over here and someone else wants to have their monkey climb a pillar and look around for another spot check. Like I said. 4 rooms, 3 hours. And two rooms didn't even have anything in them.

Then hallways. Someone always darts ahead to look at the next four twists and turns. Another one will stay put waiting. Someone else goes a different way to scout. Each doing search and listen checks at each little turn at the same time. This campaign will never finish at this rate.

Now I applaud their thoughtfulness. They are great strategists, and battle actually moves quite smoothly and normal pace for challenge. They are on point with initiative and usually figure out what they are going to do in between their turns.

My problem is when out of combat in a dungeons crawl, they move waaaay to slow, needing to do two to three back up rolls on all checks and ask for minute details on things that don't matter. More than not, they find nothing and do it again somewhere else.

Many rooms have encounters and traps but there are a lot that have no value or threat, same with the hallways.

How do I speed this along so by the end of a session they actually accomplish something?

Is this my fault for the part 1 campaign every room was made cleverly my traps were puzzling?

How can I tell them that there is nothing to a room and there is no need for ridiculous thought out strategies every time, OR is there a way I can have them not have to ask rolls and back up rolls for every possible check?

Has enyone else who uses their CAMPAIGN FORUMS been having the same issue. When someone makes an entry in the HOUSE FORUM section, it does not send out an email notification automatically like it used to. I have found a way round this by going back into the saved post, unclicking EMAIL ALL then clicking it again and SAVING it a second time. I don't mind doing this, and therefore I can ensure that my players see my posts, but they don't have the same tenacity (NOR SHOULD THEY INDEED) so that I am not really on top of answering their posts because I don't get an email notification.

If there is already a ticket regarding this issue, could someone please direct me to it so I can add my voice. If other people have noticed the same, but there is no ticket, please let me know in this thread, and I will set one up with some support from my esteemed colleagues.

Hello!

I've been a member of Obsidian Portal for a while now but never really used it very much. I joined a local game that used it a bit more but even then, it kinda petered out. I'm planning to run a Star Wars RPG game and use the website to coordinate the group as well as have discussions OUTSIDE of gaming time and I was planning to pay for the Ascendant membership to help me with this. While somebody else suggested Facebook, well, I don't really like that format.

Anyway, here are my questions regarding the membership:

1. If I am GM and I have 5-8 players, will ALL of us have to pay for membership to get the benefits of the calendar, forum, etc.?
2. If I am GM and one of my players wants to have a turn at GMing and we're going to play a totally different campaign, will he have to upgrade to Ascendant or can we use my account for this second campaign? I ask this because we might have 2 or more campaigns that the group will swap between.
3. Is there any way to copy/download/save all the info we put in as backup or just before the Ascendant membership runs out?

I think that's it for now. I hope someone can help with answers. Thanks!

So, I am back in action as it were here on OP after a bit of a hiatus (though I was still popping in on the forums at times and doing some stuff to contribute to the community). I should be much more available and engaged here now that I am getting ramped back up to get my DA Campaign rolling again. We picked up some new Fans in the downtime, and after digging around I see we are the most Fanned Dragon Age RPG campaign here on OP. Big thanks to everyone for that, even if the numbers are paltry in comparison to some of the more epic pages around here!

Looking forward to being back in the swing of it all, and having an active campaign under my belt.

Back in the oldie oldie days there was a nice little supplement called the Book of Lairs that provided simple adventure hooks for GMs. There were no maps and very few stats to speak of. Just launching points for adventure! That's the whole point of this thread! Give a one or two line adventure hook to inspire our fellow gamers! Here are a few of mine off the top of my head:

* A badly beaten rogue, fleeing from armed thugs, plants a map on one of the player characters.

* A powerful city lord is killed accidentally when a teamster loses control of his wagon. The lord is revealed to be a doppleganger.

* While traveling south, the adventurers come into a blighted, rain soaked land at the center of which lies a small village where a mother and child has disappeared each of the last 5 nights.

So what are your ideas?

But what game systems are you itching to play, but haven't ever scratched yet?

* After listening to a really kickass Actual Play podcast, I'd love to try my hand at the Legend of Five Rings RPG.

* After getting just a nibble with a one-shot at a convention, I'd LOVE to play in a long-term Traveller campaign.

Pretty self-explanatory, I think. What webcomics do you read?

My list:

*Gaming-Related Comics:*
* "Order of the Stick":http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html If you're a gamer and you're NOT reading this, there's something very wrong.
* "d20 Monkey":http://www.d20monkey.com/ - A newer webcomic, very much aimed toward the tabletop gamer crowd. LOVE this one. Has some NSFW language.
* "Goblins":http://www.goblinscomic.org/ Another story that I simply cannot wait to see how it ends. A crew of goblins decides they're tired of getting attacked by wandering adventurers, so they become adventurers themselves. Wonderful art, story and characters. Much love.
* "Rusty and Company":http://rustyandco.com/ - A rust monster, a mimic and a gelatinous cube decide to become adventurers. (I'm sensing a theme here.) Much hilarity ensues.
* "Weregeek":http://www.weregeek.com/ - (Like werewolf, but weregeek) All kinds of gamer geekery to be found here.
* "Guilded Age":http://guildedage.net/ - I'm _really_ curious how the story in this one's going to unfold. A very fun fantasy setting, excellent characters, and plenty of action. Also has some NSFW language.

*Other webcomics*
* "PVP":http://pvponline.com/ - I jumped onto this band wagon late, but now I'm a faithful reader.
* "Questionable Content":http://www.questionablecontent.net/ - Some NSFW language, but always very entertaining.
* "Sluggy Freelance":http://www.sluggy.com/ - I just can't quit it. I've been reading it faithfully for about fifteen years.
* "Least I Could Do":http://www.leasticoulddo.com/ - This is another that I just can't stop reading. I've met the creators (at Gen Con), and those two guys are pretty damn cool. Language.
* "Ctrl+Alt+Del":http://www.cad-comic.com/ - Video gaming-centric, but lovable characters. Bad language.
* "JL8":http://limbero.org/jl8 - What if the members of the Justice League were all third-graders going to school together? Brilliantly written, very cute, and well-drawn.
* "Zombie Ranch":http://www.zombieranchcomic.com/ Post-apocalyptic tale of the trials and tribulations of a rancher and her herd of zombies. Kinda Spaghetti western meets Book of Eli.
* "Bearmageddon":http://bearmageddon.com/ From the artist of Axe Cop. It's a zombie apocalypse, but instead of zombies it's BEARS! Gorgeous artwork, but sporadic updates.

I do also read a couple of hilarious but extremely NSFW comics (Oglaf and Menage a 3), but I'm not gonna link those here. If you want 'em, google 'em yourself. ;-)

Been keeping an eye on the official help forums. Because I usually refer people there for actual bugs and concerns and stuff.

The silence is deafening however, several posters in separate threads have posted concerns and come back a week later inquiring why no one has answered them.

Not sure sending folks there is effective anymore.

Hello guys. I read the terms of service, but I still have questions about Intellectual Property of us (GM) :
If a upload a map or an illustration made by me, I'm the only keeper of the Intellectual Property of that material?
(I know you can use that material for promotion, but only for that?)
What about the story plot or things like that?.
Thanks!

Hi!

Fabled Environments is doing a Kickstarter for Western style floorplans.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1359478628/fabled-environments-presents-wild-west-floorplans

The way KS works is that we get a lot more "loot" when more people back. I.e. we get all those stretch goal buildings.

This means I'd like all those Deadlands GMs to consider it and possibly back it - to make the Weird West a better place! ;-)

If you do play in this era, please consider backing it (I want my stretch goals ;-))!

If you like dark future or post apocalyptic, survival, horror you gotta check out Chaos 6010 A.D. Products can be found here http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?&manufacturers_id=3578
If you are old enough check out the Pray for Dawn module. This is a very twisted campaign of survival, horror. One hundred and thirty pages that detail every building and room of a city where a group of adventures must survive one night within this nightmare. The players awaken without their memory and are forced to band together to survive. Doesn't matter if one character is good and the other is evil, you better have each other's back to get through this module! Check out the Chaos game.

Hey!

I've been using obsidian portal for about a week and am addicted to the features. I've spent hours on it.

My players feel the same and we would love to add a character journal (We used to do this via email threads)

We love to add some fan fiction to the campaign in downtime once in a while. Is there a way to add another tab along with wiki, characters, adventure log, etc?

I'd like to just have a clone of the adventure log but call it "Character Journals" Is there anyone else that has found an effective way to do this?
