Fairly new, but so far I'm liking the look of this whole system. The only question I have is, I'm wondering if there is a way to have like sub campaigns under one so that you can use the same forums, wiki, etc. The reason I ask is this because I have a group that is going to be playing together for quite some time and we will be going through several campaigns. I would like to have an over arching "campaign" where we can share all our group discussions and where the forums will always have our information, etc but I would like to organize it in such a way that I could keep track of separate campaigns we did in this group under different headings. The only way I can think of doing this now is have 1 campaign that is just a general campaign where we all hang out...then create several others for each separate campaign we do. I hope this makes sense. If not...I apologize and I'm sure I will figure something out. Thanks

Campaign: https://deadlands-the-flood-2.obsidianportal.com/wikis/home-page

Pinnacle’s flagship product is Deadlands, a horrific journey into the “Weird West.” Mysterious beings called the Reckoners have given life to monsters and magic, causing history to divert from July 4th, 1863 forward. The South has won its independence, California has shattered into a labyrinth of flooded sea-canyons, and a mysterious super-fuel called “ghost rock” has spawned as much war and strife as it has “steampunk” devices.

Players are steely-eyed gunfighters, card-slinging sorcerers called hucksters, mysterious shamans, savage braves, mad scientists, and more who battle against evil and attempt to prevent the “Reckoning”.

In ’68 the Great Quake shattered California from top to bottom, leaving a maze of windswept mesas and perilous sea channels brimming with precious ghost rock. The Rail Wars raged as Rail Barons fought to reach California’s riches first. Only one of them can lock up the Maze’s lucrative ghost rock trade, and first they have to go through Reverend Grimme and his fervent followers!

Hello Folks! I have recently decided to move from PF/D&D for a while and switch gears. I have decided to run the Deadlands Plot Point Campaign The Flood! This is a great intro adventure to the weird west setting, and should span roughly a year! I am looking for a few players to join the game. Game will be played Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 7PM EST (most likely anyway, I am pretty flexible on time as long as its one of those three days). We will be playing the game on Map Tools .91 and using Dolby Axon for voice. My plan is to take the 1st Wednesday of Each month off, and play the other 3-4 Wednesdays in a month. I usually run for between 4-6 hours depending on flow and how everyone is doing.

Looking for a few good players. Deadlands is a rather deadly setting, so death, dismemberment and down right going insane are all real possibilities, and more likely than many other gaming systems you may be used to. Deadlands uses the Savage Worlds System. If interested let me know, best way is to get a hold of me on skype at underableedingsun. I'll be looking to start on February 11th!

My friends and I have created an app for Android and iOS, called "GM Wizard: Character Generator". We play AD&D 2nd Edition, and have been using Obsidian Portal for some campaigns over the last few years, so I figured this may be the best place to post about it. So far the response has been very positive, and I'm interested in your comments and suggestions, especially for other game systems or editions.

*So, what does it do?*
It creates a random character with various physical and personality traits to help with roleplaying and backstory. Great for a quick NPC needed on the fly, or planning out ideas for a more in-depth player character. It also generates armor, weapons, and inventory items. We've got hundreds of interesting items in there, both inconsequential (adds to their story) or magical. It also generates unique pronounceable names, first and last (human, dwarf, elf, half-elf, half-orc, halfling, gnome). You can both save and load characters.

- Google Play: "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ixiestudios.charactergenerator":https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ixiestudios.charactergenerator

Here are some screens of the meat of it. There are also some cool illustrations on the title screen and tavern section. There are more screenshots at the above links (it works for tablets too).
I took a look at my local area map and there are no campaigns that I could find that have any activity within the last few years.
Hey gang, looking for ideas -

One thing I have always struggled with is inclusion of traps. I want them to feel realistic, but I don't want to have the rogue spend every 10 seconds "I check for traps", but I also want to have them be there and useful and sensible. Any thoughts?

Part 2 of my issue - how do you include puzzles for the characters to solve? At one point, I looked up some simple logic puzzles, and they solved them, but I found it to be somewhat... unsatisfying. How do you handle this in your campaign?

We have discussed 5E here and there in other forums but I would like to hear what others think of the new system. I have said this before but I found the new system to be a huge upgrade over the silliness that was 4E. However, I wasn't blown away or overly excited about it either. I didn't find anything particularly special, innovative, or new about 5E but I also can't say that its bad either. I will be sticking with my 3.5 as I have everything ever released for the system and don’t really feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars on a new edition. Anyway, I have always thought that a good system is one that doesn’t get in the way of the story. I have no issues with 3.5 in that regard.

That said I am very excited about one thing that Wizards is doing. Miniatures are returning! I am a "miniature":https://adoraith-echoes-of-epirus.obsidianportal.com/wikis/miniature-madness addict! However, at a $17 dollar price point for very few random miniatures I doubt i will buy boosters. Plus, they kinda punted the set when they included a large number of "invisible" figs which were nothing more than the same sculpts as other pieces in the set except done in clear plastic. The highlight of the new set is clearly the dragons. Mounted in flying poses the sculpts make them highly desirable for me!!

Many years ago I posted a homebrew prestige class to the Wizards D&D 3.5 Forums with the goal of making the ultimate Heavy Metal Bard. What began as a curiosity quickly grew into a fervent project of its own. Years later, I've revived the class and expanded it into a supplement 20-30 pages in length. I plan to release it as a PDF. But I'm rather short on the cash needed to hire a talented artist for it, so I've turned to Kickstarter to help make this project a reality. If a Heavy Metal Bard sounds like your thing and you play either D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder, I encourage you to check it out.
At the end of every secession (we play every other Saturday) I give out an option, the first week it was to get each character up on OP, this past time I told them to each make a total of 2 wiki pages or NPCs from their background. Anyone who partakes in these assignments gets a bonus that they can use in game, so far I have given them a reroll on any dice, an additional 1d4 that they can roll with any dice roll (it went to hit points, I should have seen that coming). They also write the adventure log from their point of view, which I give them one DM reroll the next game. I am looking for other little boons I can offer and wondering if anyone else has ever used a system like this for anything. I plan on giving them a coin toss this next game, where any one roll becomes 50/50 for success on any 1d20 roll instead of whatever the previous odds were.

I am interested in hearing what other GMs and players think is the heart and soul of a great campaign. In my humble opinion, nothing is more important than a good villain. They are what turn simple adventurers into heroes and the search for loot into epic quests!

When I begin a campaign I will usually brainstorm ideas for no less than a dozen or so villains. As the game goes on I try to work each one into the game until I find one that really sticks under the skin of the players. The process is ongoing. I have shifted the direction of an entire campaign after two years of play to work in, what i thought would be, a far superior villain.

I know I have found my guy when I have a villain that provokes emotion from my players and by virtue of their ambitions push the story forward. Once you get an emotional reaction from the players you know they are hooked. Most of the villains I design play minor roles in the game but once I have one that meets my criteria I make sure he sticks it to the party on a regular basis. This keeps emotions running high whenever the party has to deal with the baddy.

About a month and a half ago we started a new campaign. The group has already interacted with a number of candidates and I have a pretty good idea where I am going. Although my group still talks about the "villain from our old campaign":https://adoraith.obsidianportal.com/characters/cuthalion as if these new guys don't stack up so I know i have work to do.

So what do you think? What makes a great campaign? What makes a great villain?

Split the Party? You Wanna Do What!?

As am GM, and at times, a Player, I have noticed that people have an aversion to splitting the party. I can sometimes see why, as I noticed with games like Pathfinder, if the game pushes people towards more specialized characters the odds of fatality increase. Also, you have the dreaded dead time where other people are watching stuff unfold and if you can't keep enthralled with what is going on, they get bored. Now, I am currently running a game on the FATE system and it lends itself to easier splitting. I have noticed my players like some of the individual focus it brings together characters and a chance to develop a connection to the running issue in the scenario. They seem to enjoy when everyone gets together they have the laundry list of problems that they have to balance out to deal with. With all that said, there is still the dead time when players are waiting for their turn. So, do other players split the party? Do they just go with the flow, or contort themselves not to? If you are a party splitter (GM/Player) how do you approach it? How do you balance the whole thing and keep boredom at bay? What systems lend themselves to doing something like this, is it a general inflexibility of game systems, or perhaps is an inflexibility in the mindset of players/gms?

I know when I do split the party, I try to make the divisions divide at dynamic points. I also allow table talk with other players to help the current one think of methods to solve the problem, when appropriate. I also try to make the narration and events amusing as possible.

Interesting factoids.

There are 4948 pages of campaigns. They are sorted by last updated

EDIT: Read farther along the thread, mistakes were made and corrected. /grin.

Page 4948 has campaigns that haven't been updated since 2007.

Starting at page 1 (updated within hours or minutes) you can go back to page 10, where from that point to 4948, all the campaigns are at least a year since an update.

That leaves 4938 pages of over a year since update.

This does not mean they aren't being used, (although I wager most are not) just that they haven't been update in over a year.

edit: there are 12 campaigns per page, meaning roughly 59,376 campaigns, with 120 updated within a year.
---

I might comb through the first 10 pages and count systems in a day or two.

Not sure if there is a way to integrate this into the OP maps, but one can certainly take screen shots and load them in. Food for thought.
The page describing the benefits of the Ascendant memberships says the free membership comes with only 2mb of storage space. I was trying to check how much I've used, but can't find it anyway. I remember there used to be a line when you were uploading pictures about how much space was used, but the Media Library that comes up when you hit Image Embed doesn't have anything about used or available space.

Do I have to add up all the file-sizes myself?
Do the images attached to character pages count against the upload limit?
