Hi! I'm quickly ramping up for a one-shot fate game at https://unveiledfate.obsidianportal.com/ to teach my players the system.

Is there any way to upload a map and make it GM only? Other than making it a wiki page, of course.

I have player and GM versions of the maps, and would love to use OP as my one-stop running-the-game shop.

Hello everyone. I have been away from the site for a bit dealing with various issues. I wanted to let people know that my "Rise of the Dead Campaign":https://rise-of-the-dead.obsidianportal.com/ has ended. We had a great time playing the game for the last year, and I hope people enjoyed reading about our game. I want to thank everyone for their support and kind words.

That said my group has started a new campaign. This time my wife "Kathea":https://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/Kathea is Gming. We are playing a World of Darkness game inspired by the novels of Stephen King. The campaign is called "Hobb's End":https://hobb-s-end.obsidianportal.com/. The website is set up to look like a town webpage and already has a lot of kool information. We have completed three game sessions and so far we have had a blast.

The game starts with our characters as 10 year old kids and will jump time as the game progresses. Besides the "adventure logs":https://hobb-s-end.obsidianportal.com/adventure-log each character is also writing in character journals about our experiences.

Check out our "Characters":https://hobb-s-end.obsidianportal.com/wikis/the-group and our "Character Journals":https://hobb-s-end.obsidianportal.com/wikis/journals

Again, it is too bad that "Rise of the Dead Campaign":https://rise-of-the-dead.obsidianportal.com/ had to end, but time is just not on my side. It's easier to be a player at the moment then a Gm. I will be back in the GM seat as soon as my life calms down a bit.

Thanks,
I try to use graphics and quotes as often as possible, but I still find that when I am creating large numbers of pages (particularly stubs with only a sentence or two of description), the wiki can start to seem... rather dry.

What kinds of campaign/setting information are the most interesting to you? Is it history, events, culture, religion, politics, geography, specific characters, monsters/enemies, treasure, etc...?

Separate but related, what voice do you find strikes the best balance between informative and engaging for OP wikis? Something "in character" written from a limited perspective, or something more technical with omniscient information?
If you've never heard of this contest then, whether or not you decide to enter, it would still be a good idea to check out the current and previous years contest since there are lots of free adventures to be found there. This year there look to be some very interesting prizes, including a $500 grand prize. Anyway, hope everyone here is doing well.

I don't know if anyone else figured this out yet, but I just discovered it, so, I thought I'd share it with everyone else.

Since the Reforge, every time I've logged in, it has taken me directly to the Shadows Over New York Dashboard. I've always sorta not liked this, as I've been working on a new campaign of my own as well as helping one of my gaming group members work on his Star Wars Campaign, and always missed how the old Obisdian Portal took me to my profile when I logged in.

Today, on a fluke, I figure I'd see if I could change it to the old way, and it worked. It's simple really. Follow these steps to change your login to go directly to your profile:

1) Open your Profile
2) Edit Profile
3) Under Choose Active Campaign, select the empty line at the top
4) Save

Voila! Your login will now take you directly to your profile.

Hello fellow OP's

I just wanted to announce that mid last year, after over; five years of planning; 2 and a half years of play-time; 100 game sessions; 6 players, hundreds of miniatures; 250 bags of chips (I don't want to guess how much beer and softdrink), 60,000 words of campaign notes, 1 Ascendant membership, 130 Adventure Log entries, 5 PCs, 50 NPCs, 30 items, 120 Fans, 25 friends, 200 unique illustrations and May 2012's Campaign of the Month… *Star Wars: Rogue Traders* has finally come to its conclusion!

June 2013, was our final session, having played out the central storyline and the character arcs of each player. Since then, I've been trying to finish the last illustrations, convince my players to write their final Journals and clean up the site. Whilst there will be a bit of ongoing maintenance and final polishing, almost all the hard work is done now, so if you ever wanted to read through the campaign from start to finish, now would be the time (if people actually do that?)!

It was my hope to present a true 'open world' (as dirty as that word sometimes is these days) for my players to adventure in and I think the players' incredible Journals really show just how they did indeed 'play' with the world and made it their own. It's been an incredible journey both on the site and at the table…

_I would like to thank…_
My players, as always, for their dedication, enthusiasm and friendship.
Those friends who helped along the way, in any way.
My family who have supported my love of the hobby (and let me host the weekly game) for the last 15 years.
The OP team, not just for the site but for great customer service.
The OP veterans who have provided advice and support either directly or through the Forums.
The Fans of SW:RT who've emailed me or invited me to play in their own games.
The designers of the gone but not forgotten (and still relevant) Star Wars D6 system.

And finally, George Lucas and all the creators who served as inspiration for the Star Wars universe.

As a final note, I'm a professional Illustrator and Graphic Designer.
As a special memento for my players, I created a 150 page, full colour, softcover 'sourcebook' collecting all the player's Journals, my illustrations, NPCs, Planets and items and a little bit more… It was an epic task but It was a pretty nerdelicious result.
I will be making a .pdf version of the book available for download through the site and I'm considering making the non-profit print version available too, to anyone interested.

Whilst *Star Wars: Rogue Traders* is over, I'm still here, updating the site and playing in the *Pathfinder* campaign "*Rise of the Runelords: Varisia's Angels*":https://rise-of-the-runelords-varisia-s-angels.obsidianportal.com/
Same crew minus one (sadly), published through my account but with Xanoxan as the GM.
We intend to play the whole Adventure Path through and for now the Journal is my character's alone (illustrated by her!)
Check it out, comment, fan it (if you like it!) and keep OP'n!

Spear butt spike stats?

So in my Greek campaign I am trying to accurately make stats for the butt spike common in ancient greece for the rear end of their spears. It was commonly referred to as the lizard sticker, and it was used firstly as a counter weight making their long 8ft spears easier to wield in one hand when fighting in the phalanx, and secondly it was used as a weapon if the primary end of their spear broke. It was quite small and thus would do less damage for certain. It was also commonly used by the rear ranks to stab wounded enemies as the formation advanced over them.

Thus far I have been unable to find d-20 stats for any kind of spear butt spike... I could wing it but I would love to see if there was any versions of it floating around out there to compare.

Hey, everyone. It's been a long while. My life took a chaotic turn but now I'm back, with a considerable amount of free time. I have a few cool campaign ideas that I wanna take a while to sit down, flesh out and write before I run for some friends. Here's one of my questions, though...

How valuable do you find playing situation-appropriate (combat, town, ambient, etc) music while running (or playing) a D&D/Pathfinder/etc game? I've always liked it, but I'm never really sure whether or not other people have the same affinity for music as myself. Do you think it really helps set the mood? I'm an electronic music producer and I was considering producing a custom soundtrack for my own game. Do you guys think it would be worth the time and effort?

I prefer to run games with more emphasis on story and character knowledge instead of player knowledge, and I've been trying to describe items without just telling the players outright what it is and what it does. However, all of my players are used to video game-style "you know what it is immediately" and it bothers me. However in my exacerbation on the subject last session I just informed a player that the gift he received from his parents for his birthday (he's a child mage) was an "Amulet of Health +2" because nobody in the party bothers to take Identify and assume Detect Magic will tell them everything all the time. I felt pretty miffed about doing this because instances like this have gone on since the party first discovered magic items (and even though most of them are non-casters would not likely know what the item is anyways).

Anyways, my questions to the community: How do YOU handle magic items or other such equipment as fits your setting? How do you handle players who want everything up front as if they were playing a video game (a la Dragon Age or Diablo)? How do you deal with character knowledge or lack thereof about the items they come across in your campaigns?

Hey to everyone out there who enjoys using 2D or 3D terrains for their games, Fat Dragon Games has their newest Kickstarter ending Monday morning by 10:59a and they have almost met all of their stretch goals!

I've been following them since Gen-Con 2013, where I was blown away by their vendor booth and the great quality of these materials. This is their fifth Kickstarter to date, and I only wish I had known about them sooner so I could have joined in on the other four!

Hey guys! Okay so basically I am running a secondary campaign set in Ancient Greece. I will paste the premise below or you can pop over to the campaign and read the home page: "Age of Heroes":https://heroes-of-hellas.obsidianportal.com/
So far I have downloaded the books "OGL Ancients" as well as "The New Argonauts" and they definitely have some promise but i was wondering if anyone has used something for a similar setting that they like? Mainly I want their to be a lot of options combat wise while keeping the power level down, and making things like the shield and spear fighting of a hoplite much more dynamic, as well as a way watered down spellcaster based on witches, priests/clerics to different gods, and oracles.

Here is the intro description as seen on the front page:

This is the second campaign I will be running alongside Avatar: Conquest of the Imperial Order. The campaign takes places right around 500 B.C. at the time Athens is being reformed as a Democracy, after the former corrupt leaders of Athens are exiled with the help of the Spartans. The campaign will take place mainly in Greece but may also include lands as far as Egypt, Arabia, Persia, India, Gaul to the West and the Germanic Tribes to the North. The protagonists will be three young adults living in Greece (15-18) who for individual reasons travel to Arcadia in southern Greece to learn the arts of mercenary monster slaying.

The ancient gods as well as mythical creatures will exist, and historical events will be occurring around the players, as well as many side plots involving gods, monsters, or citizens of various nations. The rules will be a variant of D-20 tailored to the Ancient Greek world. There will be custom magic users with powers derived from the worship of specific gods. It will be hard core in terms of survival needs, leveling will be very slow, and the max level will be somewhere between levels 5 and 10 with all levels above being reserved for Demi-Gods or other mythical beings. Gods will vary in power from levels 10-30 depending on their status in the pantheon which will be described in great detail. Races will all be human, but with different racial stats depending on the region of Greece the character is from.

The lifespan of the characters and their activities throughout these historical events will be entirely up to the players decisions. Everything from diet, cleanliness, lifestyle, and injury will be taken into account to decide the lifespan of the players. It can be assumed that the players are above average Greeks and will be considered elite or Heroes by their fellow Greeks at some point through the course of the campaign. The possibility of prolonged life due to the discovery of magical artifacts of legend or holy sites is also a possibility. Such legends will be covered in detail, but must largely be initiated by the players for their own reasons.

A few days ago the Kickstarter campaign for "Against the Dark Yogi: Mythic India Roleplaying" was launched.

Against the Dark Yogi is a high-action tabletop RPG where the players take on the role of epic heroes, destined to defend the mythological India-inspired world of Bhurloka from the machinations of the Dark Yogi, a sinister figure attacking the dharma, the order of the world, itself.

On the subcontinent of Bhurloka are a thousand cities with a myriad customs. Hundreds of city-states and small kingdoms parcel up civilization, with great swaths of untamed forests and mountains wedged between. Wandering ascetics practice austerities on mountaintops, seeking spiritual enlightenment and supernatural powers. Rajas stand before their palaces, speaking to their peoples. Archers, surpassing all others in skill, compete for great prizes and boons. Chariots roll and elephants march with armies to war. And all the while the devas look down upon the world from their celestial home, watching events and warding off attacks from their eternal rivals, the asuras.

Well, Shadows Over New York has begun it's final episode, and while by the rules of my gorup, I have to wait two campaigns before pitching another game (which means most likely 2 years), I've had an idea that been running through my mind now for some time. And I'm looking for some help, suggestions, and ideas from all of you.

The whole idea behind this new Campaign is to combine two of my favorite Games/Universes – Mass Effect and Star Wars. And, as sorta an inside joke almost, using the universe of The Old Republic (if nothing else, makes it easier to do a CGI intro film as I can use all ingame footage from both :) ) This idea originates from back when I was playing Mass Effect 3. You see, I was on a break from World of Warcraft, and was regularly playing The Old Republic and playing Mass Effect 3 after my IRL friends logged for the night. During almost every mission, as I was picking memebers for a mission, I kept thinking how cool it would be to be able to include my Jedi Consular form SWTOR as one of my ME team members.

The premise for this universe existing would involve the (much lamented) ending of Mass Effect 3 – The triggering of the super weapon and destruction of the Mass Relay network. Now, I’ve played ME1-3 a few times and every time I destroy the Reapers. So, we go with the old Star Trek technobabble and say the energy released from the Mass Relay destruction swept ‘Citadel Space’ to another dimension – the galaxy of The Old Republic (SWTOR). Modify the ME3 ending slightly to preserve EDI and the Geth, and we have our initial setup.

Place SWTOR slightly during the current MMO timeline, say, just after the second war with the Sith Empire is ended, and you got a Universe.

I will admit, the temptation to bring in other things – Have the Battlestar Galactica (classic look and characters, but new and old cylons together) and her fleet arrive, looking for Earth, just as Citadel Space is swept away, include Farscape as part of Citadel Space’s past, and have it go along too, is really tempting, but, I think it better to keep it to just the two - ME and SWTOR.

Even have an idea for the campaign beginning. In the unmodded ME3 ending, if you were max paragon (which I always am) there is a hint at the very end, that Shephard is alive. Take that and have it be a vision from the force, received by Master Satele Shan, and you have a beginning. The Jedi Council forms a team to find Commander Shephard, to bring her (yes, I play Femshep) back, as a means of solidifying the alliance between The Republic and Citadel Space. Which means, of course, the Sith do not want her found, or better yet, want to find her and turn her to the Dark Side.

This whole Campaign idea also sets up the question of whether Biotics and Force Use are the same or different.

First big issue, is coming up with a title for the campaign. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

And, any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Anything would be appreciated

My campaign "A Manifestation of Chaos":https://metzger.obsidianportal.com/ turned 3 years old today and we are anticipating the end of the campaign near session 100 (next session is 87). It has been quite a ride. My page is still suffering from injuries caused by the rampage of the dreaded Reforge Beast, (an electronic distant cousin of the Tarrasque, I hear... may it now sleep for a century).

However near the end we are, after seeing a number of impassive campaign trailers, I decided to do one. I did not let my complete lack of skill or xp with this stop me and I think I did well for my first crack at it.

So, I'll officially report to you, my non-computer skilled brothers and sisters, it is possible given you have 10 hours of free time and a two liter of mountain dew.

Check it out if you want and heck why your at it, become a fan. I am close to 100 and would like to hit that mark before the end (plus -it's the only way I can make a run on killervp - lol - don't worry killervp you'll be at 300 soon).

My current campaign is set in Victorian London, 1866. As a lark (and to keep all log posts in character) the chronicler of the crew has been entering his dates as if they were the correct date/year. So, the first entry was April, 1866. This made things AMAZINGLY easy for me to organize - all entries were in the proper order for the time the game occurred in play. As well, I could make one post on the day's current date to "Update" a main entry so that any player could easily find the adventure log they were looking for.

Now, with the new way of entering the date - unless I want to click on the "back one month" button until I hit 1866... this isn't possible any longer. Trust me, that's a lot of clickin'

While I understand the ease of using the click-on calendar - isn't there a way for someone to enter the date they want? Or at least choose the year rather than have to click a few berjillion times?

Card Based RPGs
Alright so we (our company) have this idea to create our own Card Based Tabletop RPG and I know there quite a few out there, some successful....some not. So lets start this off:

1. If you were offered to play a brand new Card Based RPG, would you Accept or Reject the offer and Why?

2. What would a Card Based RPG have to offer to grab your interest?

3. Would the absence of dice completely deter you away from playing, even as a demo?

4. What could you see becoming a problem in that wouldn't be present in a traditional dice based tabletop roleplaying game.

Let the discussions begin!!! Please be as specific and detailed as possible with your responses, we am looking for some major feedback maybe on issues we have not yet thought about that could cause issues. Greatly appreciated.

I have recently started a new rule in my game. All players must post their list of items on their character tab in OP. If a player says they use an item in game, and I check OP to find it not there, the item is not available. Perhaps it was left behind, lost, or stolen. Do you think this is a good idea or one doomed to failure?

A week ago, Paradigm Concepts launched a Kickstarter for their Arcanis RPG system.
It is a sourcebook for the Blessed Lands, Cradle of Empires and the First City, which spans over 4 ancient civilizations.

The Kickstarter is already fully funded and they have reached several stretch goals, which give three maps of the continent and the First City itself. One of the cartographers is Andy Law (http://www.hapimeses.com/), who produced the Green Ronin/Freeport maps.

If you have never tried Arcanis, now is a great time to try it out. They have a pdf add-on bundle that gives all of their Arcanis:RPG books, as well as what is essentially a buy 1/get 1 add-on for the Core book and the Codex of Heroes, which is primarily more player options.
