I've been using OP for about 2 months as a player in the Shadowrun campaign "Geek The Mage First":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/geek-the-mage-first playing the Mage of the party. Obviously, a good choice considering the title of the campaign. I've argued that since Sam Wolfe is a shaman rather than a mage he should't be geeked first, the men with guns typically haven't thought that argument carried merit. :)

I've definitely found that OP allows for some great player input in the running of a campaign by allowing players to easily add to the story. I'm always finding it interesting how different players at the same table can see very different storyline progressions. Of course this is even better when all this is being done from the character's point of view. In my opinion I think this is one of the best things OP does to improve any game, it helps the player/GM communication about the storyline at least from a player's perspective. I haven't used it as a GM yet, so my experience with OP in that way is limited, but the GM secrets seem to be useful for doing prep beforehand.

During a game I can see OP as being useful as an online reference to old NPCs and such. Does any one use it as more than that during a game? What are people's favorite applications for gaming? Personally, I love using RPGTool's Maptools and displaying it on the plasma TV and player's laptops for character movement. **Campaign**
-The campaign is set in Eberron and draws heavy inspiration from Firefly/Serenity. Currently, the party was dragged into the Shadowfell by an Elven woman we framed for murder and banished to the Shadowfell.
-There is a fairly even split of roleplaying and fighting. We all agreed that this was something important to us and we didn't want to just whack at things all day.
-The DM has a few house rules (Ex: Criticals can be narrated for extra effect/bonus, limited free ritual use) and works with the players to create a more fun game for everyone.
-We meet once a week, usually on Sundays around 2pm.
-We have all the minis, dice, mats, and books needed to play. Also, 2 players have a DDI subscription, so we can access any book in publication if needed.

**Party**
-The party is a gang of thieves. Most missions/quests involve heists, breakins, or manipulation. In fact, our first encounter was breaking into a factory and stealing the Warforged player.
-The party consists of a crazy Kenku Assassin who utilizes poisons, a Changeling Hexblade who steals everything, and a Warforged Artificer who is being worshiped as a god.
-The party is far from being boy scouts. We have no qualms stealing, raiding a hospital, or framing someone else for murder.

I am looking for a few players who might be interested in a regular campaign I would like to run. The system is Weapons of the Gods by Eos Press.
Weapons of the Gods is a Wuxia(Kung Fu fantasy) game with emphasis on high adventure. Think Kung Fu movies, the story of the Monkey King, or Dynasty Warriors/Three Kingdoms.

I would like to run an in person game if possible, but I am open to the idea of an online based game.

Just a few encounters away from Paragon Tier, our adventurers are investigating troubles in the Syrkarn region on the Continent of Sarlona. Mostly tracking down a Karrnathi war criminal, the group has also come into conflict with desert eladrin within the realm of Thelanis and agents of the Inspired.

This is an online game run using Maptools, version b74

We are currently in need of a Leader type, as out Warlord|Artificer has been intermittent with RL concerns.
We could also use a Striker, as there is currently a Companion Character in that role.

'I just thought I'd introduce myself.
Ive been hanging around OP for about two years now but never actually checked out the boards.
I must say that the amount of advice and help here is amazing. Just reading up on some of the posts really helped me build a better campaign site.
I have been roleplaying for about 8 years now and OP has really done wonders for my games that last 2 years. It really helps with worldbuilding. Me and my group use it all the time now.
I've DM'ed a lot of different games so I guess I have some experience, if anyone needs some help or anything feel free to ask.

Any advice any one else can give on my main campaign is also welcome.

I did have a question, has anyone actually used OP to simply build a game setting. I know this question most likely sounds kinda silly considering the point of OP, but I meant has anyone just built up a game setting (possibly even without Players) to create a sandbox setting and then had players (or even multiple game groups) populate it? When I started building this game just over 2 years ago (mostly preliminary work, and major plot/metaplot planning), this was my intention and so I was hoping to see if anyone had, so I could look over the approach they've taken in building their setting here on OP...... If this a normal thing, let me know and tell me to shut up =) and read some bloody campaign pages... =p

-how do you balance using the computer and paper notes during the game?

We've played a few sessions and I'd like to know how other DMs use their obsidian portal pages along with their paper stuff. It's hard to look at an encounter I wrote 2 weeks ago on paper, then refer to my notes in the GM-only adventure log to remind myself of some special circumstance that changes the encounter.

-How do other DMs save/link-to their encounters on OP for easy reference?

-What do you write on paper?

Part of my challenge may be that I've written a lot on paper and haven't put it all up on my site yet. Also that we each played 1-2 games with experienced players in high school, and we never really knew any of the rules. It's tough to master.

We are an online Old World of Darkness 3rd Ed game set in Guildford UK. We are pretty much open 24 hours a day. Most of the time players are present as this is a multi time zone game. When the STs are working or asleep players are usually open for small character building scenes that don't require an ST present. The players are friendly and very helpful. We are a sheeted/dice moderated game. If you can handle a text based rp game come check us out, don't be intimidated we where all new to this at one stage and its easy to learn. If you don't know, SLA is a very original sci-fi horror dystopian future setting. It borrows from many places but comes out as a pretty unique setting.
