I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say here. I play dnd (3.5 and 4.0) and the Hero system (fantasy and scifi). I'm big into comics, H.P. Lovecraft, Steampunk, Tesla, mudding (off roading in jeeps and trucks with the intention of getting yourself and the vehicle covered), rock climbing, Star Trek, Dr. Who. basically if its nerdy I at least know enough to hold a conversation about it.

I am a Dungeon Master and have been one for the last two years. My campaigns tend to be over the top with the balance of reality resting in your hands. (Last Campaign they were dragon riders). I'm always looking for new pen and paper games to play and people to play them with.

Hi all. Just kicked off the wiki for my campaign of two or so years, The Orphans Of Cathorna. Was originally a low-key affair to introduce some newbies to RPGs, but when they all moved on I invited my old group to participate. All up there are about a hundred years of gaming experience at the table when we gather. Only runs every three months or so (four of my five players are 3,000km away), but the level of dialogue and PBEM interaction make this a full-time job for a few days each year.
Wiki's just about done but for a few maps, waiting on my decision on Ascendant status (this tool is good, but I'm yet to confirm it's the best for my game). Feel free to browse and offer comments and advice. I'm keen to hear from GMs using 6th edition Hero; is it better/faster/cleaner than 5ER? Anyone regretted making the change?

Thanks

Hi all, I've been using the site for a couple of months now, since being invited by a friend.

I live in Greater Bristol, United Kingdom, where I have an office job. I'm part of a gaming group that has weekly meetings. I'm thinking of taking up table-top wargaming again, after a brief spell in my teens. My group plays mainly 3.5 but also does d20 modern, whilst I'm also into the HackMaster system and am a lapsed member of the HMGMA. My user name is taken from an early HackMaster Character - a Gnomeling Cleric/Thief.

I think my campaign "Ray's South American Idea" is ready for public scrutiny and am looking for input from the wider community on how I can make it better.
One of my main regrets is that I have input every NPC I've concieved into the wiki, when some of them are essentially just a collection of tags.
Anyway, go browse the wiki and let me know what you think:

Hey guys and gals!

So I like to write short pieces here and there (like in "this thread":http://forums.obsidianportal.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1508) and I just finished something I'd like to share with you. My buddy and his gaming group (my old group, the guys I played with in highschool, who just very recently asked me to join in their new campaign YIPPEE!!) have been playing 4th Edition for years now and we got to talking about systems and our preferences and complaints and things and it got him thinking he'd like to try out the Pathfinder rules. So anyways, we came up with the fun idea of playing a late night session, just three of us after everyone else leaves. One DM and two players. Anyways after lots of discussion about what kind of world and what kind of characters it was decided that it would be fun to play "evil" characters (not evilgelicals just selfish and without too many morals ya know).

So last night we played the first session of this short test world and it was a blast. I have written up a short piece about a major event in this character's life, based on the personal history that I had come up with for my dude.

So my character Kazimir, is a 2nd level fighter. He is a smart guy (Int 16) who has always been a bit smaller and scrawnier than the others (Str 14), and so has tried to compensate by being a smarter fighter. This competition and need to prove his worth made him study fighting instead of say wizardry. He has developed this complex where he uses his intelligence to justify his being better than others and all of this has developed into a general contempt for most people. He isn't very charismaitc (Cha 12) but what he does have he uses strategically. He likes to manipulate others, and has always been keen enough to find the weaker ones who will do his bidding. Anyways, he formerly fought in the military, but now can be found in the slums as a sword for hire. He hides his intelligence behind a mask of stupidity. He usually has one eyebrow raised as if he's confused and having the ex-soldier look makes it easy for people to quickly write him off. Obviously this gives him a huge advantage. He's also really big into philosophy...

So here's a scene from his past with a brief explanation in the -next post:- few posts apparently because of limited word space in posts:

Greetings All,

I'm new to registering with the site, but have been pouring over it for quite some time.
I've been gaming my whole life, due to an early introduction from my father.
I find something to like in nearly all systems, but my favorites are 3rd Ed, WoD and Dark Heresy.
Currently, I'm playing in a Star Wars and Dark Heresy campaign, but I'm working on my own historical fantasy game set in feudal Japan, using the WoD ruleset.

Hi! Name's Lianne aka The Party Panda.

Nerd Creds: Got my first taste of tabletop gaming when I was in high school but I've been doing seriously and constantly since about 2003. My games of choice are 7th Sea, Star Wars Saga edition and Deadlands. Been to a few GenCons, can be spotted yearly at DragonCon playing "Are you a Werewolf?" with my husband and the "Dudes On, Shirts Off!!" crowd (you'd know it if you saw it),and been toying with the idea of PAX for awhile.

Signed up for Obsidian about a month ago to see if it would help me get my thoughts organized for my Deadlands campaign and have to say I think this tool rocks! I plan on using the site to track my tabletop group and run a concurrent (and connected) play by post with a group of players who can't make the weekly sessions but really wanted to play.

I also really like looking at other people's campaigns. Don't have much mad skillz in the way of coding so I'm totally jealous of how awesome some of the other campaigns look, I can't even figure out how to do a sidebar on my wiki page.

Anywho, like I said, just saying hi!

Honor.

bq. Cary and the Spaniard stand for a moment quite upright, their sword-arms stretched straight before them, holding the long rapier horizontally, the left hand clutching the dagger close to their breasts. So they stand, eye to eye, with clenched teeth and pale crushed lips, while men might count a score . . . . Suddenly there is a quick turn of Cary's wrist and a leap forward. The Spaniard's dagger flashes, and the rapier is turned aside; Cary springs six feet back as the Spaniard rushes him in turn. Parry, thrust, parry - the steel rattles, the sparks fly, the men breathe fierce and loud; the devil's game is begun in earnest.

Honor may be earned, with a strong wrist and a stout heart.

bq. He took his place without a word. I read in his drawn white face that he had made his mind up to the worst, and his courage so won my admiration that I would gladfully and thankfully have set one of the lookers-on - any of the lookers-on - in his place; but that could not be.So I thought of Zaton's closed to me,of Pombal's insult, of the sneers and slights I had long kept at sword point; and, pressing him suddenly in a heat of affected anger, I thrust strongly over his guard, which had grown feeble, and ran him through the chest.

Honor *must* be defended, no matter the cost.

Honor calls the tune for the Ballet of Steel.

I'm looking for players for "_Le Ballet de l'Acier_":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/le-ballet-de-l-acier, a swashbuckling adventure campaign for the _Flashing Blades_ roleplaying game. This is a face-to-face tabletop game offered the second Saturday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at "St Crispin's Irregulars Hobby Night":http://www.meetup.com/stcrispins/, a Long Beach and Orange County area roleplaying gamers' Meetup.

The year is 1625. Louis XIII is king, a pious and vindictive prince standing in the shadow of his conniving first minister, Cardinal Richelieu. France is a state beset from within and without, by fractious nobles and rebellious subjects at home and ambitious princes abroad. In a society of rigid class distinctions, it's nonetheless possible to gain wealth and power no matter one's station, with courage, skill, and the gentle touch of Lady Fortune.

Player characters a drawn from the broad range of swashbuckling archetypes found in cape-and-sword books and movies, such as dashing nobles, masked highwaymen, wry musketeers, worldly priests, pious knights, deadly fencing masters, ruthless pirates, even wealthy bankers or intriguing royal bureaucrats. _Flashing Blades_ provides the rules for creating a wide range of distinctive characters.

The game includes a fast, fun tactical duelling system in which players choose their characters' fencing maneuvers, matching thrusts, slashes, parrys and ripostes each turn, as well as non-martial skills ranging from Oratory and Etiquette to Disguise and Seduction to Stealth and Acrobatics.

Please visit the "campaign wiki":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/le-ballet-de-l-acier for more information on _Le Ballet de l'Acier_ and the _Flashing Blades_ roleplaying game. Post your questions in this thread or shoot me a Private Message here on Obsidian Portal.

Hi there! How are you today? Thanks for taking the time to pop in here and read what I have to say. I'm a 39 yr old gamer that was a HUGE player in my teens but drifted away from the scene around the time TSR decided that if someone came in to work claiming they had a cool dream the night before they needed to publish it as a new setting. I continued to read fantasy novels and started playing video rpgs in the late 90s, but I stayed away from the tabletop games.

Then, my father passed away in 2005 and I found myself looking to the things I'd loved in my youth to help me cope. I bought up all the original D&D hardcovers that I remembered on Ebay and then moved on to the 3.5 ones. Long story short, I find myself working on a new campaign setting and wanting to either DM or play the game again. So, here I am appealing to the PP&G forum masses in the hope of finding other old holdovers like myself.

I'm looking for preferably an older group with players who have goals and aspirations for their characters and work with the DM to make the setting a more complete world rather than needing to be led by the hand. I don't like my genres mixed and prefer fantasy. My own homegrown settings tend to be 50% heroic, 50% epic fantasy with occasional dark overtones. I'm looking for OD&D, AD&D, 3.5 or Pathfinder and would like to talk to group members before getting together to play to see how our interests mesh. I won't rule out online games or play by posts, either. So, if any of this sounds workable or interests you, please post here or drop me a PM. Thanks again for your time

Hey, we are recruiting for a new campaign that I will be DMing. Here is the link to the campaign's page:

http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/renovamen

-It will be a 4th edition campaign, which focuses on giving an explanation as to why there is no magic on the earth that we inhabit. Please note this is a purely fantasy driven world. It shares similarities in that the world is named New Earth, and is the same planet but our civilization is long gone. Magic has flourished in our absence, and the world was recreated. The story is further fleshed out on the campaing page, so please don't fret, head over there!

-This campaign will be online. I'm a big tabletop gamer, so I don't think I will be using Maptool or OpenRPG unless someone can do some serious teaching quick. Which brings me to a sidenote, this isn't a group you will sign up for and wait awhile to get started. Once I have the required amount of players we will be starting fairly quickly and hit the ground running. But once again we will be using a chat client such as Skype or MSN messenger which allows voicechat. At the beginning of each round I intend to post an image of the map for all to see, with everyone's positions. I'm hoping this isn't a deterrent to some, but I really want to keep this as simple as possible so that besides a chat client, the only program you will need is a browser to view the campaign page.

-The class restrictions are fairly simple and are on the wiki. As of now only two classes are prohibited for plot reasons. (If someone were to create a character with an incredible story that works well with the plot, I'd accept anything really).

-And we tentatively have one player who is looking to be a defender, let's try to fill all of the roles!

-You may email me VIA the email account I set up directly for the campaign: renovamenDND@gmail.com

Hi Everyone,

My name is Nick and I am new to this board, but very much an old-timer when it comes to role-playing, having come into the hobby way back in 1977 with the original D&D and Traveller.

I took a break from role-playing during the Eighties and early Nineties, but got back into the hobby in the mid-Nineties with a bit of face-to-face gaming and also by DMing a very intense D&D PBeM called Bohavia, which managed to generate over a million words while it ran from 1997-2001.

Nearly a decade later and I'm interested in starting off gaming again - just as a player for the time-being, as I am quite rusty.

I would be interested in playing D&D or Traveller and am free to play most evenings, European time.

I like my games to be heavy on role-playing and character development rather than hack and slash. I like the look of Virtual Tabletop programs, but haven't checked any of them out in detail yet as there seem to be so many of them around that I can't work out which would be the best to go with.

I am looking forward to be part of your excellent community.

Pathfinder: a fantasy game, once/month one day on a weekend

I have been playing and running various games for over 20 years. Not only table top but LARPs as well. Great attention to detail and combat. Pretty damn creative.

I am looking for 3 to 5 more player for a home brew campaign. I would prefer players to be mature, ahem, over 21+.

About the game: I will be using the Pathfinder system. I run the game more as a story teller than a DM. The world is my own. I do not in general force players into "modules" rather prefer them getting into trouble on their own. I set the stage, do a phenomenal job playing multiple NPC for all to interact with. The game is about playing roles/personalities of your characters. Which means that what you create should at least have a personality. I keep very tight reins on Magic Use. Starting alignment is irrelevant, I can make anything jive. PCs should not be afraid of having characters killed. It happens, deal with it. Its a game.

The game will consist of only about 1/3 combat. The rest will be investigations, and PC and NPC interactions and plot lines. If you are interested and want to pre-make a character or are just curious about the setting go to
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/rise-and-fall-of-the-sharian-empire
and check out the home, wiki, items and comments tabs. I've spent several hours writing up and detailing the land.

We now have 3 players and would like 3 more. The game will run once (1) per month on a weekend. We are generating characters and backgrounds at this time. I am not sure about location. If you find the campaign on the obsidian portal the location is a general/non-specific location intended to bring in players from Manhattan, Rockland and Norther NJ, but I think we can find some place in the middle where no one will mind and where we can play.

Thanks,
Eric

PS: please post questions or message me.

Hello all, Rase and I have decided to put together a new New World of Darkness game on OP. We'll be playing in the evening on weeknights, most like for only a couple hours at a time, whenever we can schedule a session. We think that these shorter, more frequent session will work better with hectic schedules. So! About the game, Rase has agreed to run it using the New World of Darkness rules. We will be playing "prelude" characters, meaning we'll be regular people in the Dark. Where we go from there, whether we're embraced, awakened, or... bitten by a werewolf, or perhaps something else entirely, is up to us. I think the game will be starting in Chicago, but that is still up in the air.

Where do you all come in? Well, we already have a couple players, and we're looking for 2-3 more! Busy schedule? don't worry, we all have them, so we're only looking for a few hours a week, times to be determined to work out the best for all of us. If you're interested, please reply here or send myself or Rase a PM, and we'll let you know if we have room for you. If you're interested but don't have the time just yet, well, that's fine too, let us know, and maybe you can join up down the road. If you have an idea for a character you'd be interested in playing, feel free to share (I'm going to be playing a rich research scientist), but that's not required at this point. I look forward to hearing from, and gaming with, some of you!

Greetings everyone,

Starting next year, I am going to be running a 3.75 Pathfinder Homebrew Campaign in Normal, Illinois. We will meet monthly, and all game sessions will likely fall on Saturdays (still to be determined). Again depending on people's schedules I would like the game to run for at least 6-8 hours if we were to only meet once a month.

I am looking for experienced 3rd edition players in the Bloomington/Normal area, preferably college graduate age (24+), as all players I currently have are in their mid 20s to early 30s. I have two players currently, and am looking for two-three more.

As for the campaign itself, it will take place in a heroic, pillars of light setting where most of the world is a terrifying place aside from several city-states/nations. To enhance the overall experience of the game, especially between games, all PCs will create an account (completely free) on the game's forum/website where PC backstories/stats will be listed, recaps of past sessions, and general campaign guidelines/information.

I have ran/played DnD for about 10 years, and pride myself on running fun and exciting games. If you're at all interested and are easy going, have a good sense of humor, shower regularly, enjoy story driven campaigns, and believe you could commit to at least once a month meeting then please respond directly in this thread.

Cheers,

Greetings, friendly denizens of the Obsidian Portal. How's everyone doing?

So, I've been with the Portal for a bit over a year and I'm just now discovering the wonders of the OP forums/community by the suggestion of my personal friend and DM, Duskreign. Though this is only my first post, I already want to say thank you to the users of the forum here. Between Mike's help and reading through posts on the forums I've learned a metric buttload of extremely useful knowledge, from DMing tips/ideas to help with coding and making my personal page on OP look all fancy-like. So... Yeah... Thank you, OP community! Many kudos to you! Haha.

Now I suppose I'll write a bit about myself...

My name is Vincent and I'm a 23-year-old that was born, raised, and still resides in New York. I'm a musician, an artist, and a hardcore gamer. I've been playing/DMing D&D for about five years now. In the most recent two years I've played with Mr. Mike Scott (Duskreign) as my DM. Mike once told me a quote that I play/DM by and, subsequently, apply to life itself. "Never let the rules get in the way of a good idea." Words of wisdom, indeed. Regarding art, I've been drawing/making graphics for most of my life. Musically, I'm an East Coast rapper, a rock singer/screamer, a lyricist/writer, and a producer. I've been making music since I was about ten-years-old. I'm in a band (hip hop, infused with rock) with my cousin and a mutual friend of ours. We're currently working on our first album.

If you happen look at my OP profile, you'll see the brand new campaign setting that I'm working on. In the coming weeks I'll be adding all of the content to the pages and prettying it all up so just don't be put off if you check it out right now and there isn't much content on it. It'll all be on there quite soon. I'll also be running the first campaign of my original campaign setting in the very near future. I'm currently creating the world and all of it's content, doing all the artwork, AND producing an original soundtrack for my campaign. I've got a lot of work ahead of me but I can't wait to see the finished results and share them with my group/players and the rest of the Obsidian Portal community!

Sooo... Yeah... Nice to meet you, everyone! Haha.

Hey guys, just joined Obsidian a few months ago at Zathael's suggestion when he created a game, and I've been addicted since.

Been gaming for nearly six years now, and my biggest fondness is for White Wolf d10 games. Right now I'm in a Scion game on OP, as well as running my very first game ever, an OldWoD Werewolf Savage West setting. I really (ridiculously) enjoy seeing all the well thought out games I've been finding, and might eventually break and do the Ascendant stuff. :P

Seeing how helpful this site was helped me buck up the confidence to run my first game, since bookkeeping is a horror sometimes, especially with the millions of little story seeds that can just pop into your head and be gone the next day.
Ready to stop lurking and actually get into the muck of things here!

"Ragged Vestiges" Campaign Now Recruiting

We are now recruiting players for the Ragged Vestiges setting! Welcome to the land of Vorkalis, foremost of the kingdoms descended from those destroyed by the Godswar that nearly brought an end to all life. Man, dwarf, elf and orc all took up arms against one another and heeded the call of their kings, queens and even gods in a mad struggle for supremacy that shook the pillars of heaven while releasing hell on earth. Nations fell, civilization crumbled, immortals died and knowledge was lost as the world fought desperately to survive the chaos it had wrought upon itself.

The path back to civilization has been a long and painful one, but it HAS been traveled and the you are the offspring of those who have cut that path. You find yourselves in unique times as your homeland, the mightiest empire of the modern age, begins exploration and colonization to both the east and west. In the north, the dwarves continue their ages old battle with the giantkin and have allied with the norselike men of the frigid wilderlands, about whom much has been whispered but little seen firsthand. And, in the lands of the south, it's rumored that a nation of the dark jungles has built it's capital in the very heart of an active volcano, calling it Anshur-Tervahl; "the city of black glass".

Magic is the stuff of legends and feared by most, but for those with the courage and openness of mind to learn more of it, it can be as capable of miraculous blessings as horrendous evils. There are secrets lost and forgotten awaiting discovery by the bold explorers of this new age and you will be at the forefront of that wave.

This campaign will be run on OpenRPG and we're tentatively looking at one session a week at a time we've all agreed upon the week prior. It will be a Pathfinder/ 3.5e game with loose limitations(only psionics are out, atm). Currently, our roster includes only Rase Cidraen and I, but we are looking for 4-5 more mature, intelligent players to join us. If you're interested, please take a moment to cut & paste the short questionaire included and post here or PM me your answers so we can get a feel for your taste and compatability for the group. Thank you.

1) What race and class are you hoping to play? What style of that class are you imagining for this character? What is his or her name?

2) Please give a description of your character, including physical and personality traits you see as important.

3) Give a bit of your character's history; i.e- age, relationships up to this point, occupation, apprenticeships, enemies, etc.

4) What are your character's goals? What drives him or her?

5) What is your favorite fantasy series or novel? Please describe why.

6) Favorite fictional character in fantasy? All genres? Please describe why.

7) Favorite figures from history? Why?

8) Prefered atmosphere for your campaign? Dark, epic, mysterious, light?
