Hi all:

After somehow managing never to be exposed to a DnD game for 37 years, I played my first DnD Encounters game this past Wednesday and I am hopelessly hooked. As someone with a family and a lousy geographic location in the US, I'm hoping to find some folks who can guide me into a game that takes advantage of the net (cam, online tools, etc) and is newbie friendly. Hoping there's a game out there! I'd love to meet on weekends if at all possible.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi I'm a GM who recently moved countries so am trying out new ways to run games. I'm trying out Skype with my old group running the big campaign I always promised them, I have a lot of info in my head that I wouldn't normally write down, but I'm going to try and put as much down for my group as I can, then have them do the rest *muwhahahaha* .
I really like the idea behind Obsidian portal so I'm hoping those I play with do too. Anyway I'm sure I'll bug the community with lots of questions over the coming weeks :)

I have been a member of this community for a year and a half, now, and I just realized that I never properly introduced myself to this community. I am Mike Scott, aka Duskreign, because it sounds cool.

I am using Obsidian Portal for an ambitious purpose, and one that I am far from completing. I wish to create a complete guide to my campaign world, Wyrmshadow, including archives of every campaign that has taken place upon it's troubled lands and wave-torn shores. So far, I have done quite a bit of the skeletal work for bringing this goal to fruition, but I acknowledge that the mind is as weak as the soul is devoted. I'm trying, though, OPites.

I am also running a Star Wars campaign set in the KOTOR era, Heart of the Force. I'm using the D6 rules because, lucky me, I won a Facebook contest from Obsidian Portal and got the 2nd Edition Star Wars Roleplaying Game from West End Games.

I want to say something from the heart (and my spleen would also like to add something immediately thereafter):

I have met some incredible people here. Our common passion, even if it is just for a unique and fantastic form of personal diversion, has created a solid bond between us, all of us, that we are fortunate enough to share through this wonderful website. Obsidian Portal is more than a place to host information about your rpg campaign, though that's all it might have originally been intended to be. It is, for me and many others, a shrine to our glorious hobby. It's like Facebook for pen-and-paper gaming nerds like me, and like you. I want to thank, with all the sincerity and heartfelt gratitude my typing skills have to offer, the creators and staff of Obsidian Portal. You gave me a safe place to talk D&D with people without looking over my shoulder and seeing the other kids mocking us from across the lunchroom. Or was that just me that happened to?

Now, my spleen would like to say a few words:

What am I even for? Does he need me? Should he be eating a special diet or something, because this guy drinks way too much diet soda, and I bet I'm gonna pay for that somed...

Ok, thanks, spleen.

Hey All...
Names Joe. I've been gaming since I was 13 and dont intend to stop anytime soon... over the years I have been working on a new game system called Bionica... I live in Fenton Michigan and it has its ups and downs. Game wise I started out with Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition, I picked up the knack for being a Dungeon Master and still to this day love being a game master creating campaigns and the like... always liked telling a good story.

I'm looking to run A campaign in fenton michigan using the game I created, BIONICA, its setting is sci-fi / fantasy ... where magic is an explained phenomon seperated into two schools psionics and kinetics... all types of weapons are available from Mercurial Gunblades to Plasma Rifles to MAWs (Mechanized Assualt Weapons) the game mechanics are simple but I incorporate a d30 instead of the traditional d20.

I like OP but lack the technical know how to get the most out of it... so any tips would be appreciated...
If you have any other questions or comments be sure to drop me a message

Dear OP

Salutations! It seems I have been remiss in failing to introduce myself here despite having been a member for nearly nine months. While that's a fine gestation period for a human being, it's a bit on the long side for an online persona. So: hi, how are you all? I've been lurking and poking about, and I may just start speaking up a bit more as I get ready to use Obsidian Portal in an active campaign for the first time this fall.

I've been playing pen and paper RPGs since my freshman year of high school and running them for my friends since the year after that (which comes to about 10 years now, if you're curious about my age). We started, as I'm sure many others did, with Dungeons & Dragons, specifically Editions 3/3.5. I converted to Savage Worlds almost exclusively somewhere around 7 years ago, although I have played the occasional 3.5 or D20 Modern game (and, briefly, a lone 4E game) since then.

I prefer running games in SW for bookkeeping reasons (and also out of habit and familiarity, at this point), although I like to learn new systems and then heartlessly scavenge the best bits of them for my own dark purposes. A game run by me (or a character played by me) generally means a gray-scale of morality, as opposed to black and white good versus evil, and I hope that that feeling shows through in my writing about those things.

Well, that's my history as a gamer in a fairly large nutshell.

Sincerely,

Hello everyone on OP (Special welcoming to ADnD 2.0 players)! I'm 16, unfortunately living Jax FL. But it's chill, I suppose. I've been gaming for the past 4 years, and have been having a great time doing so. As guessed, my favorite system is ADnD 2.0, I really can't stand 4e due the recent impressions I've had with my 4e campaign.

My gaming style is rather brutal for the most part, I love necromancy and large axes/hammers. Nothing is more satisyfying to me than when a DM takes the time to describe the gruesome aftermath of a horde of zombie (or spirits) rampaging the countryside, or a simple hammer to the face. Finesse, for the most part, is for the wimps who can't take a hit. Hypocritically, I like playing the rogue. I'm also a good cleric, if anyone in the Duval/St. Johns/St. Aug area needs a player.

Anyways, I've been on OP a while (notice I didn't say active) and have just recently began using it as a primary source of organization and display. Starting with my 4e campaign (which is horrible by the way) and eventually organizing and running a 2nd 2.0 campaign. So far, things have worked out perfectly for me (aside from my hatred of textile/wiki code). I'm not the biggest fan of creating a full blown adventure log, so don't expect much there. Actually... don't expect much at all from anything. No worries.

Anyways, glad to join the community. Check my campaign (ADnD 2.0 only please, http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/scatteredpaths) and drop me some suggestions if you wish, I'm open for improvement.
Really digging the site here, loving the fact that my recently started campaign has a home now.
I'm looking forward to further developments, hoping to see some expansion for more html coding and stuff.

And uh, just a little character crunch: Got into tabletop briefly back in '00 with 2nd ed. D&D. Just recently started playing again back in March when my cousin invited me into his 4th ed. D&D "campaign":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/marvels-monsters . Just this week, I had my first stint as a 4e DM in my own "game":http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/deicide too.
But yeah, hope to see this site, and everyone's game pages grow.

Hello,

A couple of months ago, I asked my players to check around for a site where we could keep all our game information. A little over a week ago, one of them pointed me to Obsidian Portal. He and I surfed around for a couple of hours and now we are calling this place home for our game. OP states that it was built as a tool for tabletop games but it fits our PbP needs beautifully.

I've been playing RPG's since about 1981 when my parents gave me the basic box set for Christmas (much to their chagrin). My best friend and I killed off dozens and dozens of characters in the Caves of Chaos and rolled those little dice until they were pretty much round.

Since then, I've played in or read the rules to many, many games like so many of you that I have been reading about here. Right now, I'm running a d20 Modern PbP game and I am intrigued by the Dresden Files and may have to purchase the books, even if it's just for the read.

I am currently looking for a replacement player for one of the characters in my game. The female character (nickname "CB") is going to be taking levels in telepath and also sees symbols in her dreams. I'm looking for someone that is a team player (since all the characters are friends) and is able to roll with a mish-mash of rules. The players and I are using d20 Modern as the base but there are bits and pieces of other rules making their way into the game along with some homebrew stuff. One of the reasons that I love OP is that it's going to allow us a place to assemble all the House Rules. If you love being a chaotic character as a player that can quote rules, this is not the game you're looking for (insert jedi hand wave). If you want to play as part of a group of friends trying to get home and want to take an active role in game mechanics and storyline, drop me a line.

You can read more about the game here: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/benders

I'm glad to have found the site and I've been spending some time surfing around the different games being played. Lots of cool ideas here and I'll be following along some of them.

Thanks,
I am new to OP, and have had a number of years RPG'n at tables, but never at an online site. I'm ready and willing to try this out. I am in the US Army, and am currently stationed in Germany until September. I haven't Gamed in about 3-4 years, and want to get back into it. What I have played, and have supportive books for: AD&D, D&D 3E, D&D 3.5, Eberron, Palladium Fantasy, Rifts, Twilight (not the movie), Iron Kingdom, Serenity, and Iron Heroes. If anyone is running a game within the worlds I have listed, Please feel free to contact, or leave a post here. I'd like a PBP type game, since I'll be in Germany, and then all over the states. I would really love to get back into, and start playing again. I feel that this site may be my best avenue for that.
I (along with 7,000 other people it seems) have benefitted greatly from gnunn's sidebar how-to, and have incorporated it in to my Cthulhu page.
I would love some input on the page, so please check it out when you get the chance.

Hi. I've been a member for a few months, but I just upgraded my membership and moved my ongoing Eberron campaign over to here. I run an online game using Maptool that includes people on the East Coast, in Canada, and one in Australia. Great group of people.

So far I enjoy the tools, though I have to get used to using a wiki. I like the idea, though, and it will make the world of Eberron easier for my players to access. They don't all have/read the campaign guide.
Thanks for having me!

Hello Everyone on Obsidian Portal! This is Nicole from the new "Tuesdays with Nicole" segment from Obsidian Portal. If you haven't seen it, please check it out at: http://blog.obsidianportal.com/?p=541 . I'm basically using content from OP users (with permission of course) and doing a quick sketch of that character, item, monster, encounter, etc. The video airs every 2 weeks (the next one will be Tues. May 18th). I've received wonderful responses, suggestions and new content from users; but for a future installment, I'm really looking for an item to draw: something very personalized to your character like a weapon, vehicle, magic item, pet, etc. Please post a link below if you have an item you want drawn.

A little about my gaming history: I've played only for 2 years and I haven't DMed anything, but I'm working on that ;) I've played a couple one shots in the Scion, Exalted and a 4E Shards of Alara setting. My first experience with playing a long-term campaign was a 3.5 Accordlands game as a Deverenian paladin. When 4E launched, I started playing it right away. I'm currently in an Eberron campaign, playing a human artificer named Leonora D'Cannith--and I love playing an artificer. She's only level 2, but I'm hoping to get her to epic level.

I look forward to being more involved with the online gaming community here at Obsidian Portal.

Well, for years i've been posting a set of web pages reflecting characters and campaign logs. Its a big risk to put it all on someone elses platform. I heard about OP through PnPG (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/member.php/6703-templeorder) player cross pollination and thought i would give this a try. In some ways its easier, but the lack of certain controls also makes it harder. I do like the ability to hook player involvement into it, through wiki like functionality. It definitely more dynamic than a set of flat web pages. Its easier for me to maintain as well, from a pure content perspective. I'm liking it a lot. I'm definitely contemplating the paid services once i get things rolling and my players register and get involved. Got one already... I hope i can get the rest... if you have advice on how to get players to collaborate using the site, please send it to me!

About me: I've created and developed my own game system for years at http://www.incarna.net. Currently going through major revisions for a version 3.0. We have a few groups using it, and i'm starting to make all the materials i built available for free, removing "subscription" locks on them (its slow to make them presentable though). I'm an IT professional (shocking!) running a web development team building collaborative based solutions. I've played every game system under the sun up until DnD 3 came out. Right before that, i built my own first derivative system and quit playing most others (a little DnD, WOD, WHRG and dabbling in others here in there), focusing on my own since then. It broke the D20 mold long ago and i never looked back. I took all my friends with me (3 game groups) and also have 3 play test groups. Two of the play test groups still use it. Small audience, lots of fun.

Hi! Barry here, DM of "Shadows of the Dragon God":http://obsidianportal.com/campaigns/shadowsofthedragongod

My full profile is up here ("http://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/vlarg":http://www.obsidianportal.com/profile/vlarg), but here's the basics:

I've been playing various role-playing games since the 6th grade and the old Red Box. I started as a player but quickly found my niche in running games and creating worlds. I hadn't run an old-school D&D game in a long time, and decided to borrow some 4E books from my friends and get to work. I must admit I was inspiried by the webcomic Order of the Stick, which is laugh-out-loud piss-your-pants funny to nerds like me. Obsidian Portal totally helps me keep track of the game. I'd be kinda lost in my own game without it.

I'm also the webmaster/producer of The Ugly Couch Show ("http://uglycouchshow.com":http://uglycouchshow.com). We review TV, movies, video games, table top games, comics, and all things geek, old and new. The video shows come out every two weeks, and we also do a weekly CouchCast covering the week in geek, as well as a blog and geek events calendar. It's pretty awesome. We also have puppets.

So, yeah, check the campaign out, tell me what you think.

Hello everyone, figured I've been using this site for a long time, and I've just recently began totally revamping my campaign and wiki through gratuitous use of view source, so i thought I'd say hello to everyone! I'm using this page basically as a place to set up my campaign setting and notes from previous games, and for my current campaign which is off to a rather slow start (hard to get 6 20-somethings together these days). I would love to hear what people that aren't my players think about my game, or if anyone has any comments or suggestions, I'm all ears.
So, my campaign has been going for a couple months now, and I decided to buckle down and make a site for my campaign. This is the first game I've run under 4th Edition rules, and so far I'm really enjoying some aspects of it (4e definitely has it's positives and negatives).

My group has two experienced roleplayers, one who's RP'd before but never heavily, and two absolute noobs (unless you count WoW as RPing). The only book most of them has read is the 4th Edition PHB, so I've incorporated the Points of Light world into my own. In fact, I like the idea of Points of Light and have been wanted to do something similar since before 4th Edition ever came out, so I took PoL, gutted what little there was of it, and hung it's skin over my own world. So while I have a Bael Turath and a Nerath, I have fully fleshed out stories of their rise and fall that bear no real resemblance to D&D. However, most of it lines up well enough with the little that's in the PHB, so it works for us.

My only big deviation is the monotheistic religion that permeates most of the world, which I did because I wanted something monolithic and catholic-themed for my religion. In the three games we've run so far, I have to say it's been a bigger success than I expected. Players never end up memorizing the dozen gods of any given world and how they interact. But a "us vs them" single god? They wrapped their heads around that one pretty quick, and even the non-clerics understand religion and I have a couple religious characters.

So as of last night, I'm done with the start of my wiki (that makes sense, right?) and I sent out links to my players. But it's still very much a work in progress, and I'd love any tips and critiques of my page.

Hi people. I've only been gaming for a couple years, but I already have campaigns in D&D 3.5 and 4e, CoC, Hunter from new WoD, and one I ran in my own mod on 3.5. The hunter and 4e campaigns are the only currently in session, running in Kalamazoo MI. I'm also looking to run a Mutants and Masterminds campaign this summer in the Ann Arbor-Detroit area, if anyone's interested or knows someone I still need a couple more players. Love the site so far, props to the owners and the community, this is one of the best campaign tools I've ever seen

Hi, I just randomly discovered this site in a desperate attempt to find gamers near me (as I have recently moved). Loe and behold I find the most spectacularly useful site!

My name is jacqueline, I'm 26 years old and I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons since early 2003, I occasionally ran a game where I was living (depending on players) but have mainly been a player. Was mostly involved with 3.5 but have experience in playing 2nd ed (yes I understand the term THACO) and have also been involved in Werewolf, Vampire and other LARP through Camarilla Australia.
Look forward to getting to know you!

Howdy folks. Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Beautiful website. Love it, love it, love it. Now I only wish my players loved it as much as I do. But you know how that goes...

Started up a d20 Call of Cthulhu campaign (http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/cthulhu-crc). This is my first real attempt at DMing and it's turning out much more enjoyable than I had anticipated. Of course, it helps that I'm using terrific source material to work with (Masks of Nyarlathotep). I've perused the ongoing games out there and have been really impressed by some of the site designs, and (admittedly) stole a few ideas here and there.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to poking in and out all of your games in the future here. :)

My dad got me into role playing games when I was about 8 years old. I've played Basic D&D, AD&D, AD&D 2nd Edition, tried 3E, Shadowrun, Rolemaster, MERPS, Paranoia, Cyberpunk 2020, Call of Cthulhu, DC Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes, Gamma World, Star Trek, Rifts, GURPS, and a smattering of others, though I prefer Shadowrun 2nd and 3rd, and AD&D 2nd Edition. (Yeah, I'm grognarding it up with my old editions)

Trying this site out, and must say I'm fairly impressed! Now in discussions with the wife as to whether we can afford the extra $40 a year on the extra features.
