Dusky, you remind me of a T-shirt I once saw: "I'm not a gynecologist, but I'll take a look anyway"

What to do when a PC becomes possessed...
August 2010
If it were one of my characters getting possessed, I would probably let the GM run the character for that session. If the possession persists, then I might get in touch with the GM between sessions and try to get an idea of what the demon or soul w…

2010 ENnie Awards for the win!!!
August 2010
It's an honour to be nominated, if for no other reason than it gets your name out to even more potentially interested folks. But it kicks ass to win. ;) Go y'all!

Stealing Jim's Idea (for a repository of sorts)
July 2010
edited July 2010
So an OP version of GM Gems? Totally in. I've tried to share a few things on the forums, but they really would be more appropriately housed as part of a campaign. Edited to add: Florimel doesn't read the forums, but I know for a gosh-darned fac…

Dealing with Dangerous Encounters & PC Death in Your Campaign
July 2010
I wouldn't call it off-topic - it's a great example of how this idea might help soften the blow of the initial PC's death, and we were initially talking about how to deal with that possibility. The idea also fits in pretty well with other advice …

Dusk, I love that idea of people rolling up alts and weaving them into the story background, and I may well steal that for my In Vitro campaign.

High magic campaigns
July 2010
There are levels and levels of "magic-rich". Piers Anthony's Xanth series is the best example I can think of where the world is most definitely "magic-rich" - everyone has SOME sort of magical talent - but it doesn't mean everyone is super-powered.

I have nothing useful to say except that I'm a fan of Tom Smith and cannot help but think of FENTON THE DEATH SHEEP FROM HELL.

Duskreign seeks to win friends and influence people
July 2010
Ha! Hi there, Duskreign, my real name's Katie Simpson (the handle comes from the plethora of characters I've played over the years - I didn't want to play favorites by using one of their names as my handle here). When I first discovered Obsidian…

Another observation: Duskreign is obviously running a very realistic, "gritty" campaign. And there are folks who are into that. I might even enjoy that sort of campaign as long as I knew going in that it was going to be that way - AND if I were ru…

Dealing with Dangerous Encounters & PC Death in Your Campaign
July 2010
For my part, I happen to love character generation. I happen to have a handful of 4th-ed characters that are fleshed out through 5th level and I have a pretty good idea of where they'd go from there - 2 of them are fleshed out through 30th. So whi…

Implementing Player Journals, Other questions
July 2010
In "The Sun Eaters", we're all using the Adventure Log. If my character were inclined to keep copious notes, she'd instead be using the forums (Florimel is an Ascendant, mostly for the increased number of campaigns). The forums would allow her to …

Emissary, cool stuff...

So...any plans for making OP swag available for purchase by folks like me who aren't necessarily up for the actual talking-to-people part of the job but would like to passively promote the site? ;)

every PLAYER I add can edit everything WHY?
June 2010
When I was playing around with a test campaign, I found that players added to it could modify any NPCs created after they were added to the game. I am not entirely sure that there *is* a setting to "fix" that. Back when I was starting out on the…

Music in your game
June 2010
I was thinking more on this, and I think a soundboard would be an epic solution. Small snippets of song, just enough to set the mood, and possibly a little easier to navigate quickly. Though I suppose thoughtful naming of snippets would allow it t…

Oooh, this reminds me that I could probably pull QUITE a lot from Peter S. Beagle's writings. I know for a fact that if I crib from works other than "The Last Unicorn", nobody will catch it. And heck, even if I *do* swipe the likes of Schmendrick …

Music in your game
June 2010
I've only played with one GM who used music in his campaign. It's a Werewolf campaign set in an alternate modern-day Dallas (you know it's alternate because the Trinity River is pure and pristine). Since he chose to set it back in the mid 1990s, h…

Share the best elements of your campaign
June 2010
If this concept works, I will be tremendously proud of it. So I simultaneously want to share it for inspiration and submit it for critique. It's inspired by a weird dream I had back when I was having all sorts of weird dreams: "The Song of Core…

A question for the DMs
June 2010
I don't own a laptop, so OP at the time of play is not an option. Moreover, I don't like it when other people use laptops, and I've had to use one to run RPGA mods before and I hated it. For me, there's just something about using a computer rather…

Whats your favorite magic item?
May 2010
Second the magical shelter vote. My favorite low-level items in 4th edition D&D are the everlasting rations and the instant campsite. Now, if you're asking which item I'd like in real life, I'd have to vote for the 3.5 version of the Handy H…

Campaign Planning
December 2009
The one piece of advice I've got, given my utter lack of experience in running a game, is to be as flexible as you can with your ideas. Which means a lot of asking yourself what your highest-level goals are, and trying to figure out if there are mu…

"Evil campaigns"

I never saw any of the "Saw" movies, but that sounds like something that would've happened in them. See, I'd put the HEROIC party in that position. Evil is de rigeur for the DM! (muahahahaha)
