Sorcerer Wizard Hybrid

I am in the process of starting up a dnd 3.5 campaign and I have a player that had an idea he would like to try but I could not figure out specifically how it would work.
He was wanting to make a sorcerer/wizard so that he could spontaneously cast and still have access to all the spells on the wizard side.
I was wondering how exactly would he go about doing this?

You can use the Gestalt character option from Unearthed Arcana pgs 72-76.

You could do Sorc/Wizard/Ultimate Magus (From Complete Mage)

One would gain more than the other one, but taking the Practiced Spellcaster feat would determine which class gets more spells. I used this build focusing on Wizard spells (Practiced Spellcaster on Sorc) and I was very pleased with the results. The ability to gain extra spontaneous spells and on-the-fly metamagic has made it a very fun character to play. If you don't want to be MAD you could sub Sorcerer for an int-based spontaneous caster.
