This question is open to everyone, of course, but I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who have been using Obsidian Portal for some time and/or have run campaigns successfully here.
At a high level, what are the core features that make Obsidian Portal a useful/essential tool or community for you?
For example:
*Campaign-specific*
Wiki
Calendar
Blog (adventure log)
Forums
Email notifications/reminders
*Site-wide*
Campaign search (geographic most important? or by other criteria?)
Campaign of the month
Community forums
Comments
All of the above, and more... the problem is I use all of them except the forums- every feature.
Maps, video, pictures are ones that I did not see on your list.
Just trying to help out.
- Wiki
- Characters
- Adventure log
- Calendar
- Forums
- Email notifications
All of the above are critical, below are the nice-to-haves:
- Maps
- Campaign search
- Community Forums (very nice to have)
- Items
Nice but not super-important:
- Campaign of the month
So when you all are talking about maps... are you talking specifically about the "Google Maps"-like interface with labels, symbols, etc... or on a more basic level just the ability to upload large map images. I suppose the latter is the "core feature" and the former would be an ideal or nice improvement. Been reading a bit on integrating the Google Maps API and uploading custom maps for use with it, and it doesn't seem too difficult (as such things go), but haven't gotten a chance to play with it at all yet.
All good stuff so far.

I don't see the need for characters, items, or adventure logs to be separated into their own categories (the way OP does). Tagging (searchable) wiki pages as "Character" or "Item" or "Adventure Log" is totally sufficient, in my opinion. If these ARE separate it'd be nice, but it's not critically required.
Campaign Search is a long-term need, but probably could be added sometime after an initial launch if there are problems.

Site-wide
* Community Forums.
* Search. By update, by game, by most-popular
Campaign-specific
* CSS styling. This was the main reason I purchased a membership. That, and wanting to support something I liked.
* Wiki
* Adventure log
* Search
* Tagging
I've used the other features, but they're not that important to me.

Yes. Every now and again I look on the Facebook page and sometimes leave a comment.
