Custom Active Flagging

Howdy folks. I've been fiddling around with the Nav Menu some more and I've got a bit of an issue I'm trying to resolve for a while.

My site technically contains 3 campaigns (Arilon, Hairen, Haven), and I added some custom nav items for each of them. When I'm on the landing page for each campaign they are flagged correctly as the active page and the corresponding nav menu entry is highlighted:

However, whenever I go to a different wiki pag that isn't part of the nav menu, it defaults to my Heroes page (/wikis/main-page) as the default active page.

So, is there a way to specify the current active target for a page? I whipped up some css that allows me to target nav menu entries and highlight them based on how the pages are tagged, so the text for Arilon highlights any time you're on a page tagged for that campaign, etc. I'd love a way to be able to set the Active Flagging for the nav menu based on the page tags, if possible.

I tested a bunch of different things in the custom nav menu using active-target for each entry hoping to find a way to influence how it is flagging them, to no avail. It just seems to switch the wiki home-page as the default active target any time I'm on a wiki page that isn't directly linked into the nav menu. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions to this, I'd love to hear them.
