Can't update character images

Hi all, I'm new to obsidian, but I can't seem to get my character images to stick! I upload the file in the section at the bottom of the character page, it shows the check mark and green progress bar, I hit save, and then it brings me back to the character page, but with the same default picture! I even left and came back after work and all of my characters were still blank. Any ideas?

    Of course as soon as I post this I think to check to see if maybe the file format was incorrect. I was right, and .webp images are incomatible- despite the image preview showing up and no error message being displayed.
