It would be nice to have some sort of natural language interface for each campaign, so instead of trying to search, all of the campaign's information will use AI. For instance, I can ask "what was 's father's name?" and it will search the characters and the history of the campaign and give me back the answer.
It will be very useful for campaigns that have a lot of NPCs and history, when it's hard to remember every single event that happened.
You could also have the AI be different for players and DM, so that the DM has a version that also looks at the DM secrets and pages. That way, the DM can very easily find what he's looking for without browsing or searching.

@NimrodYanai Bringing this to the team!
@Nimrodyanai Hi friend, we put this down as a feature request.
We do have one suggest for a Backup Download as a temporary workaround from the team:
Obsidian Portal Support Druid | [email protected]
That's not much of a workaround. It will need constant updates after every session.
Hi @nimrodyanai! My apologies for the delay in response- let me see if there is any further input from the team. We'll get back to you shortly. :)

I will leave OP if you start integrating AI.

That... seems harsh. Some limited uses of AI, like adding the ability to do some calendar automation, might actually be useful. Admittedly I'd be pretty unhappy with anything being forced though.

@NimrodYanai Sorry, friend. That's the best option we have available at the moment. Rest assured it's been added to the list of Feature Requests. ☺

Any news on this?
Without AI features, this site will quickly become obsolete. Tools like Google Drive will allow you to do more with AI than with this website's entire interface.
Absolutely disgusted at the idea of adding AI to this site, already was pissed off to see the bounty section endorsing players making AI characters. If this isn't removed and more pro-AI content is added, especially forced added, I'll be going elsewhere.
Hi guys! Thanks so much for sharing your honest thoughts with us. I will be communicating the concerns of the community to our Team to come up with the best way to move forward. I'll be sure to share with ya'll as soon as possible! In the meantime, AI is not an essential part of using OP and is still on the feature requests for future considerations.

People saying they'll leave without even reading what the idea was, and commenting things that are completely unrelated like "AI generated characters" which have nothing to do with anything I suggested, is just weird.
The truth is, if AI won't be integrated, this sight will very quickly become irrelevant. I say this as someone working in the information sciences. AI is the future, and if it isn't integrated in helpful ways like summarizing game sessions or information queries, there will be no reason to use this site. Unsorted google sheets pages will be more helpful. Seriously.
Hi all.
Just wanted to share a tool one of my players built.
This AI tool uses the API (as old as it is) to answer questions about the campaign based on the adventure log and wiki. When new characters are introduced in the log, it can create new character pages for them.
It's too bad the API is not maintained and added to, since this sort of functionality should be the future of the site.
Looks like it could be useful. Is it able to extrapolate from content to theorize and discuss possible motivations and affiliations or is it only regurgitating direct crawled content?

I haven't tried, but I don't see why not - it's an AI agent, so it should be possible to have a conversation with it much like other agents.
Right now he is working on having it automatically update our quest log.
Just to provide a counterpoint to some of the above AI hate - I have already started looking at other campaign hosting sites which do integrate AI.
Ideally, any AI integration would be quiet enough that people who dislike it never have to see it in OP, and those who are starting to integrate AI could switch it on/easily engage with it.
But threatening to leave OP just for integrating AI, is rather coersive, assuming you're not forced to use it and it doesn't get shoved in your face.
Personally, I'm cautiously skeptical of AI integration. On one hand I can see how it could be useful, especially after seeing NimrodYanai's earlier comment. On the other hand, everyone is shoehorning it into EVERYTHING. Like, why did Foxit (a pdf reader/editor) add an AI widget that you can move around the screen but not disable, which actively covers a portion of the PDFs.
Even thinking about that now, I guess I can see how that could be helpful if you didn't want to read the PDF yourself, but then why open it at all? Office use I suppose.
I kinda hate this timeline. In my ideal world it would be like you said: There, because yeah the writing is on the wall that it'll be inevitable, but not intrusive or required to use in order to use Obsidian Portal effectively.

I don't have a real opinion about the introduction of AI I guess I would want to keep all details on OP as "normal" (i.e. nominal), but I guess if site carries on without any major changes to layout, I would be more or less happy.

@abersade that's just stupid integration, and I agree it would be horrible if it forced itself upon you with no way to get rid of it.
I'm with @Dungeon_Master_Loki on this.
I do not use AI. I do not need AI. AI has its uses, but gaming is not one of them and I very strongly believe it never should be.
And if you're using AI to "create" you are literally stealing food from the mouths of actual human artists.

Update on the AI integration - our AI tool now checks the new adventure logs for new characters, and if any new ones were introduced, it offers to create a new character for them, presenting the proposed character for confirmation, and creates them if confirmed.
Too bad it can't yet create AI images automatically because it costs a lot of money to upload all those things with AI queried tokens, but maybe if it gets cheaper with time.
Oh, also it updates the quest log, updates the calendar, automatically adds links to wiki and character pages...
So as you can see, it is incredibly versatile and used for awesome effect, without any sort of creation that others complained about.
"And if you're using AI to "create" you are literally stealing food from the mouths of actual human artists"
I have to disagree on this for most of the sites here on OP. Our sites here are almost exclusively amateur GMs playing games for fun with their friends. These folks might occasionally pay for art, but the vast majority of it is "borrowed" from the internet or source materials as is, so no money was going to the artists anyways. Most campaigns don't even credit the artists and it's extremely common for signatures and watermarks to just be cropped out.
Using AI to generate "art" when you are a corporate entity or are selling your services... then yes I agree with you. But for the rest of us? I'm sorry but I'm not an artist and I can't afford to just cough up a commission fee for every single NPC portrait that I need. If you are taking the stance that folks should never use art that they don't have the explicit right to use for non-commercial purposes, well I'm not sure what to say really. It's a bit like the whole game piracy debate.
As for other types of creating, I guess that depends. Name generators have been around for ages and most folks think those are okay. I don't like the idea of folks generating adventures or settings with AI, and I know of at least one GM here on OP that does that.

"I don't like the idea of folks generating adventures or settings with AI, and I know of at least one GM here on OP that does that."
There is no difference to me between this and name generating. Not everyone has the time to come up with original adventures. In the old days, you would go online and find a bunch of adventures people published for free, or downloaded illegal PDF copies of adventures. There is no reason to assume AI is "taking money away" from working people. It generates new, combined or copied ideas, just like DMs have done for many many years.
And most importantly - AI is here, for better or worse. ignoring it or taking the "high road" will not change the facts, it will just make users move to AI solutions elsewhere. That is a reality everyone needs to face.
Oh, sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm not saying that individuals who are doing this for fun shouldn't use AI to generate whatever they want, I'm saying that I personally don't like the idea of using it for generating adventures or settings.
Then again, I basically never use stock anything, so really I don't like using anyone else's ideas, AI generated or not. That's the great thing about this though, that's just my opinion. Everyone else can feel free to do what they want, I'm not their supervisor.
The main crux of what I was trying to say was that money that folks were never going to get to begin with isn't stealing from artists. Now, counter argument, their art IS being stolen to train those AI engines and that's definitely problematic.

Imagine for example, instead of having a forum dedicated to CSS support, there will be an integrated AI that can build your css and custom javascript in a second.
people are so focused on the generative side of AI because that's what most people use, but it can be used for so much more!
Hi.
I've been experimenting with using AI to stat out encounters, fill in details, and generate in-setting flavor handouts, and it looks like it has the potential to be a big time-saver for the person running the game. While I agree completely that AI shouldn't be imposed on anyone, one of the bigger problems with the hobby is the time commitment and making that fit into an already-busy life, and the option of having software handle the tedious stuff would be a good thing. I dunno how profitable the site is, but at this point some kind of connector that makes it possible to import information into a cloud service and offload the computationally-intensive stuff to the outfits that think 'tokenmaxxing' is desirable might be the way to go.
The XML download feature is pretty close to what I was looking for, thank you for implementing that.
" Imagine for example, instead of having a forum dedicated to CSS support, there will be an integrated AI that can build your css and custom javascript in a second."
I have mixed feeling on this. The few times that I've tried to use AI to help with CSS it was just completely wrong; at best it gave me a direction to work towards. If it were accurate and helpful then yes that would be helpful for folks who didn't want to be forced to pick up a new skill. To be fair, it's also been at least a year since I asked it for CSS help, it's likely better by now.
Which, honestly, is a fair point. I only know how to do anything with CSS because it was a required skill to have to make the most of Ascendant. That skill was further reinforced when the forums were in disarray and support was struggling circa 2017ish, so I started doing anything I could to provide support to users. Much of that was CSS related, and it forced me to learn more.
Personally, I'm glad that I have that experience now because I find it extremely useful for my own games, and I like to help others with their CSS because their issues are almost always different from the ones I've had, so I learn more in the process of helping them. It's a win win for me.
But... I admit that learning CSS isn't just a "pick it up in an afternoon" sort of skill, nor is it at all forgiving of mistakes. It's not for everyone. I'll happily admit that learning CSS from nothing was a very real barrier at first. That was the whole impetus behind creating this: https://abersade-testbed.obsidianportal.com/wikis/css-help-main-hub
